Um...a tire's pretty much a tire. unless they're dry rotted or below the wear bars I don't see why there would be an issue.Comment

Why are you buying 10 year old tires? Those places won't mount them for good reason...

A tire is no good if no one will mount it for you. So my question is, is this guy's claim valid, that there are shops that are willing to mount 10 year old tires?
Cheapness is why. And the reason most shops don't mount old tires is just politics. They want to cover their own asses and not run the risk of mounting tires that may potentially be weakened with age, and then get sued when some poor old lady takes a tumble off a cliff.
hey now, don't hate! ;)Comment

How cheap are we talking dude... You could find some CL tires in better shape i'm sure, or just buy new bottom of the barrel tires till you can afford better.

Sam don't you HAVE tires?Comment

$60 for snow tires, they literally have like 2 months worth of wear on them, and then 10 years of indoor storage. I was picking them up for Mike for his rally car. Well, I was thinking of offering $60. http://boulder.craigslist.org/pts/2393951299.htmlComment

10 year old tires are trash. I don't care how they've been stored.
I wouldn't mount them. The likelihood of them blowing up when I try to seat the bead is too high for me to even think about it... Much less actually driving on it.Comment

@Chris-- even when the tires look fine?Comment

Well that is just complete bullshit. Read down
Discount Tire will not mount tires that are over 10 years because one of their employees was airing one (years ago) up that they did mount and the tire exploded in the kids face and killed him. No scary myth to cover their ass, it happened.
I know tire technology has come a long way over the years and this becomes less and less likely, but it does happen. I have personally seen a tire with an impact separation being aired backup that exploded (in a tire cage, thankfully). So, being negligent of tires is not a good idea. Companies do not deal with old tires for very valid reasons.
