You have been lead astray! If the M20 was any good, why did the M division turn to the little four cylinder when they needed to build the greatest car of all time? And which car is called the "poor man's M3?" The 318is with the M42...
Just sayin'...

It's all about more robustness. Sure, the M42 is easier to work on (fact), makes more power per liter, and is more efficient, but when you rally (and build spacecraft), robustness is everything. The M20's long heritage and simple design makes it one of BMW's most proven engines, with the longest production time during which bugs are ironed out, kind of like the ol' chevy small block.Comment

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.Comment

My M42 and S14 have not let me down yet...
I did smash the M42 oil pan in Georgetown last January, but I just unbolted the severely cracked pan, lined it with heavy duty aluminum foil and used an entire two tubes of JB weld to stick the pieces together. Then I used an entire tube of gasket stuff in the cracks and gasket surface to sort of seal the gaps. Let it set up for an hour or so, and filled it up with oil. Took six quarts to get it back to Parker, but it is still running like a champ (with a new pan and skid plate)!

Nothin! M30s are awesome, but they do gobble some gas.
Now THAT is the kind of engineering I'm talkin about! My M42 and S14 have not let me down yet...

Yes he does. He's kept it kind of on the DL, but it's pretty sweet.Comment
