Small case has six bolts around the rear cover, while the medium case has eight.

Mostly aimed at Eric (since you owned one), but does anyone know how I can find out if my E28 520i euro spec has a small or med case diff? I am guessing medium.

No idea, wasn't broke, so I never bothered poking it.

yeah, I'm gonna have to mess with those as well, since it appears that the 520i e-brake cables have much different ends than the E32 e-brake cables, and I have no idea how to get the E28 cables into the E32 drums...

Sooo who has ever thought of straight piping their e30 from the catback? I was going to be cheap since my muffler sucks anyway and cut the muffler off using a horizontal bandsaw or cutoff saw then weld on the same piping size and paint it all black.
