Have you tried using a giant punch? One that's bigger than the diameter of that center triangle? I had one really stuck a few days ago, had to use a giant chisel (all I had around at the moment) and an 8 lb sledge and it barely came out. You really need to have something almost as big as the diameter of the shaft to hit on, though.

Thanks guys, replies and advice very much appreciated.
I just went through this. I used an old deep socket and a big sledge. It took a few good solid whacks but it finally moved. The real fun comes when you try to get that hub out of there. If I weren't loaned the correct tools for the job, I would still be pounding on that peice of crap. Use a bearing separator, like this to get the hub out. Then, use this Fwd bearing kit to get the bearings pushed out and back in.

Used a large 2 jaw puller. Came off as fast as you can turn the bolt. No hammers needed.

+1 on that harbor freight fwd bearing set for the rest of the job.

Huge thanks to RainRider this evening, he was extremely generous and happily loaned out his time and tools to get the job done right; putting it back together from here should be a breeze.

Rad. I'm glad to hear it went smoothly. Sure made a hell of a difference with my car once it was all said and done.

The only odd thing was when Rainrider and I felt the hub it felt solid, like the bearing was good.

The noise was when turning right though so I thought it would be the left bearing, fingers crossed I guess?

Anyone got some early MY fog light connectors (chassis side) or know of any other BMW cars that had them?

The markings on some that I have say - cut the wiring too short so I can't reuse them:

                    BMW 1 373 197
                    AMP 926172

I can't find them in realoem, but from what I found they are also in e34s.

How damaged. Mind you, I have replaced every piece of sheet metal now in the back of my racecar. So the C-pillar doesn't bother me that much.

I may have a pair in storage. It's take me a little bit to get some free time to look for them, but I should be able to look by next week.

                          This

I ended up building a tool for myself, I used a 2' section of square stock, with 3 holes drilled in it. first hole was near the end, 2nd one was 100mm on center from the first. the center hole was 50mm from the first hole, on center....See where this is going? All it took then was 2 bolts that would thread into the lug bolt holes, then I used a steering wheel puller for the center, to actually do the work. Made quick work of my stuck axle.
