Who here knows a thing or two about E46 M3s?
Eric?
Plastic plastic brittle cheap plastic everywhere, under the hood, in the cabin, beneath the trunklid, GM style. Quick connect fittings in the cooling and vacuum systems are easy/cheap (profitable!) to assemble but a PITA and expensive to repair if they are leaky or fail, and they will. Access to the fuse and relay panel requires roadside glovebox removal, a tweaked neck, and the provided flashlight, who's charge socket is unplugged during glovebox removal. The POS Pontiac Grand Am style window motors have a ridiculous failure rate. The HVAC system is plagued with electrical gremlins associated with flaws in the driver interface as well as a blower controller module that may randomly energize the blower fan while the car is unattended with the key off thus draining your battery beyond starting capacity. My favorite is the super invasive traction control software that can be "switched off".. MOSTLY.

I know someone mentioned the SMG issues. It's true. We get a lot of them towed in because they're stuck in gear, won't get into gear, stuck in reverse, ect. We rarely get any manual ones towed in. I'd stay away from early model E46 M3s, as they have rod bearing issues. Srs ones. Other than that, they're pretty reliable in all honesty. Sure around 100k (I've seen them fail around 70k) the cooling system needs to be re-done. Also, the car takes 10w-60 Castrol Motorsport oil..aka, around $12 per quart. Oil changes will get expensive quickly.
So, I don't know if this a dumb question or not. I'm redoing a lot of my suspension on my car and I know people use m3 control arms on non-m cars. What are the major differences? Don't tell me to use search, I did.
I would use stock from BMW, the aluminum wont be as strong, and with the way people drive e30s you need strong ones, IMO not worth it.
