If you're just starting out, track the 318, stock.

If you know what you're doing (10+ days, you wear the edges off the outsides of your tires, etc)
an e46 330 is a very nice car. But a pile will cost 3x the purchase price to get track- reliable.
Ditto the e36- maybe 2x, tho- they have pretty similar foibles.
But Brad's right- the e36 parts are cheaper,
for no really logical reason. And there are fewer of them...

I've had dz102s and currently have s.drives. I was not a fan of the dz102s at all. I felt they were too hard even at high temps. My s.drives are still new, but they seem stickier, and have significantly more traction in our current fall climate than the dz102s ever did.

There's a late model schwarz vert on e38 style 5's that works at the Kaufman Building right across the street from where I live. It's incredibly clean, I oogle it on a daily basis.

That is great feedback - thank you! Garnering all this feedback it sounds like the DZ102 isn't a great choice for our PNW climate. I'm now leaning towards the Yokohama S.Drives now.

            Wow. Plans change fast.

Honestly I think that the e36m3 and my 318is will the the plan. I have a 4runner to dd so I'm not in a rush to buy one. I think I'll just set 4k aside and find one on the cheap side.

            In other news.....

            I put some of my money into a 1978 911 ;)

I've kinda backed myself into an expensive corner on my pickup. can 3.4L swap it and get like a little extra go but still shit MPG.

If I want my real dream, a 5.3L EFI LS motor, I honestly need to do an SAS to make it fit nicely. Get two new driveshafts, and make some custom mounts. But this way Id have a good 250+ HP. Get like 18+ MPG highway with a 5 or 6 speed.

It will be gigantic too though, SAS would probably put me at 37" tire height.

What are you talking about, the first few years of LSx were cast iron blocks. ‘06 was the first year of aluminum block and it was used in the 360 suv chassis and I think the vette.
