I had heard the Alum blocks make less power, doesnt seem to be a big drop VS Iron blocks. I have always told myself, if Im over 200whp when I dyno I will be happy. This makes me anxious

edit: Can you do an overlay of the Alum M52 VS an Iron M52 with similar mods?

Not 100% fair because the E36 (cast) car had a nice exhaust setup, but other than that theyre equal...

Do you think the exhaust would contribute to the higher powerband ? The E36 doesnt seem to fall off as much.

Def helped/hurt by the looks of it. Notice the slight torque loss down low...

That "down low" would never be noticed by the average driver. The exhaust absolutely was the only difference. Things look so much more dramatic in a side by side comparison.

IMO if anything, the AL block "should" make slightly more with all else equal, since it does have better and more consistent heat transfer with the m52tu/m54. Engines tend to make more power when cylinders are balanced.

Good job on all the dyno work, Dave.

i'd also be careful drawing too many conclusions of comparing different engines in different cars.
