S54 SMGII into an E30

He seems to be the type of individual that doesn't have any issues with learning from his mistakes. I work that way myself, but not with big $$$$. If I'm not sure how a project will turn out, I'll hack something together and then fix my problems or redo.

If he screws something up, fine... I'm sure he will figure out how to fix it and work to prevent it from occuring again. Lesson learned... I think he seems smart enough to avoid risking anyone's life. He mentioned about getting information from the master tech at the BMW dealer and getting some access to their computer database.

just my opinion... lots of criticism flying around. I would rather give him some encouragement and take care of the "imperfections" at a later time. I'm sure it will be an ongoing project once and if it starts running.

I was reading through the entire thread and admit that some of his comments regarding the E30 kinda made me nervous (ie M3 widebody kit, "VDO silver box" in glove box). Although he admits not knowing much about E30's but how could he not know that's the DME? Anyway, this guy must be loaded to just drop $10K+ on a project that he's never done before, working on it himself. I mean I enjoy taking on projects and learning from them but nothing even close to this magnitude. I think everyone here wishes they could be that carefree with their money and time. I hope he finishes what he starts.

Actually its funny but he didnt buy the S54 and SMGII for this project at all. He bought it back when he was working on the E46 since he got such a great price for it (9500) which is fantastic for that setup.

Originally his idea was to put that setup in the X5 that they had but they sold it.

As for the Depos yea I dont like that either, I dont think E30s should have DDE, but to each his own.

What makes the E36 any more of a 'track king' than the E30 other than drivetrain? I guess if you'd done this mod, you'd have 'turned the E36 community on it's ass'.

E36 is not a better chassis... it's flaws are well known and even the reinforcement kits aren't absolute fixes. An M50 in a lighter E30 will spank the same style M50 in an E36.
