Is it just me or does the transmission to transfercase adapter attachment look really flimsy ?
Don't the ix models have a lot more beef there?

That's one of Turk's photos from the V8 AWD M3 thread.

Anyone knows what boots might fit the E34 ix axles? The inners seem to fit from E30 ix but not the outers.

I tried to get him to add some locating dowels and such to that, but he didn't get it.

I guess we'll see if it's effective or not.

If the trans and transfer case were both solid mounted i guess that attachment wouldn't see all the rotational loads.

Have you seen the thread? He welded up some scary looking stuff to mount them.

Oh btw, what exactly was the problem with fitting E46 gear set in a 525ix front diff?

The 525iX gearset has a shorter pinion shank than the E46 gearsets.

OK i never looked closely at it, can it be fixed without machining a new diff housing?

Since it would involve removing material, you can probably cut down an E46 pinion to fit the E34 case if you have a pretty stout lathe and carbide cutters.

it will require more than that. you also have to cut down the ring gear which has to be done precisely.

the pinion is about the same length but the diameter of the bearings is smaller on the E34, and the ring gear is thicker.
