Did it. Not great but for less than 10 bucks, its good enough. lets see how well it holds up. Only problem was the crappy nozzle on my spray can and while I was clearcoating bugs and crap was getting stuck onto the lights. Heres some camera phone shots, better pictures once I get them on and the new wheels installed. Gonna get some sandpaper in the morning to smooth things out a little.

They used to sell the Testors paint at Toys R Us many years ago. I thought that they still did until I went there recently and discovered that they don't even sell models anymore.

I agree, all-red tails look the best on black or white e30's. This was mentioned briefly on this thread, but are there any DIY's on how to Smoke taillights?

I just did the all red tails on my car using dupli-color red metelcast. There is a hint of amber in the turnsignals, but the camera picked it up more then if you was looking at it with your eyes. The car is really dirty in the picture so the only thing that is clean are the tail lights.

                    Testor Paint

I'm looking on the testor site... it says its a 3 oz can for the candy apple red 1605. How many bottles should I get if I would to do my tails?

Mine looks like crap already. Did it in early March. Clear coat isn't really flaking and its still really smooth but the lenses are always ashy looking. I think I got the clear coat on too thick and theres millions of tiny cracks in it. It looks fine when I wet them so Im going to try some plastic polish or some kind of gloss wax because using a scotchbrite pad didn't really help.

I have been following Mr. Andersons proceedure and they have come out fantastic. I am getting them automotive cleared this weekend so they hopefully last long.

My passenger came out as an A++ but my driver side, which was the geniune pig, came out alittle hazy and I have alittle bit of dripping on the edge. So can I just wetsand this to make it look clear like my passenger or do I have to redo it?

                            Mr. Anderson's DIY FTW!!

you guys should just do what i did, clear red (or any other color) vinyl. works perfect AND can come off to be stock again.

And then you're left with an obviously noticeable line where the vinyl is applied, not to mention a ridge between the height difference of the vinyl, where dirt and grime will collect and eventually get underneath. No thanks, I'll stick to painting.
