Hrm... that calculator says that a 195/50 tire on a 15" wheel is 1" shorter in diameter than a 195/50 tire on a 16" wheel.

What I meant was your final diameter is determined by your tire size, not your wheel size. You can run whatever size wheels you want, it's the tire size that you need to adjust to get the proper overall diameter.

Changing wheel size to change diameter is a bit like having shoes that are too short, so instead of buying bigger shoes, you cut your toes off.

What's the point of this forum if you don't bust a dude's balls every now and then? Besides laughing/oogling at terrible/awesome cars, that is

Everyone says 205/55, but that severely limits your tire selection. 205/50 is close enough and opens up a lot more options, and is even what Spec e30 runs.

OP wants to kill wheel gap.

Though I agree, 205/50-15 has much better options and is a better performer than the taller 55 sidewall

Well, seeing he has wheels very common to Spec e30, and Spec e30 suspension, with a 205/50 his car will look very much the same height (and wheel gap) as a Spec e30 ;)

                        ^ This.

Follow this list in order for teh lowz:

                        Buy proper tires
                        Remove spring pads
                        Drop hats OR Camber plates
                        Spacers

With all of that (+205/50R15), I should be around this height:

Just know that you'll run into suspension travel issues, especially with bilsteins.

                          thread jack:

i have billy sports, ie3 springs, and e90 drop hats.
with the installation of the drop hats, about three weeks ago, i feel that the car "bottoms out" on certain dips/bumps. is this because the drop hats are now causing the shocks to not have enough travel??

can i cut/shorten the bump stops on the shocks to prevent this??
                          Northern, can you explain this.....

My early model limits me on the rear and my oil pan of the m50 is unnecessarily huge rite now its about 2 inches from the ground, e90 drophats would be costly I think concerning the oil pan

Take a bump stop out of them.

i figured the solution would be something like this.

i think ill shorten them a bit, and see how that goes.
