It's really the cross-border that kills the shipping costs. Have used a place in Lewiston, NY before though and drive over to pick up the parts. Even driving over it's very hit-and-miss at the border in terms of duty and import costs.
That reminds me, my new uprated E30 swaybars and rear end bits should be arriving in Lewiston pretty soon. Almost time for another trip to the land of the free! πΊπΈβ

My personal e30 is sitting at the back of the shop, and hasn't been worked on since I started the roll cage in 2016. My daily is an e90 335d, or Chevy Express conversion van. We (team) sold the race outfit in Jan, it was two e30 endurance race cars.
The pics are all customer cars that were in the lot/shop on Friday.Comment

I keep forgetting you are a Canook! Man, I watch your parliament, they argue like school children lol. "Yes you did", "No I didn't", "Yes you did, here's proof", "No I didn't". lolIt's really the cross-border that kills the shipping costs. Yes, but I always long to move down south where there is no snow. We basically lose half of the year for any car/motorcycle activities.
Guys at work are always talking politics. I'm pretty much apolitical at this point.
It seems like none of the politicians can get things running properly regardless of who is in charge.

Same in the US. This administration can't roll a ball down a hill without screwing it up.Yes, but I always long to move down south where there is no snow. We basically lose half of the year for any car/motorcycle activities.

Come to FL! It's awesome here. Moved here in 1989 and have only seen snow trice since, only because a relative passed in New England a 4 winters ago, and it snowed twice on us, a year apart in Atlanta during the 14hr race.Comment

Maybe. From ~2012-2020 I was at the track 3x a month. Was kinda glad/heartbroken we split the team up and sold everything off, but am just enjoying the offspring right now. One is grown, three teens still at home, there's only 2 more years and we will be empty-nesters. I have everything to put it back together, just need time to invest.
Ha! Was just thinking about the e90 engine this morning while riding along side a diesel truck "man, this car has nearly as much horse-toques than that 2500".
Nice 3/4/5 came in on a rollback with the trailing arm brackets broken/hanging, and a double DIN install....

I watch a lot of youtube car guys who are down in Florida, it does look like a great place to be an enthusiast!
I'm just concerned about the coming climate change / extreme weather changes which will make life near the coast challenging. I think we will see a portion of the north american population displaced to other states/provinces as the weather patterns shift in the coming years.

ohhh i didn't realize you were in canada. yeah, those cross-border costs are buttrape in either direction, US customs isn't any better. i think i had euro parts double in price on me a couple times buying from a canadian seller. if you were in vancouver i'd run the risk of throwing them in a u-haul van and lying about how i'd just redone the leather and was returning them to a customer, but we're on opposite coasts, as happens so often here. It's really the cross-border that kills the shipping costs. Meh. From a car enthusiast's standpoint the good is limited to no snow, no inspections, no emissions tests. The roads are boring, the traffic gets worse every year, and the tracks are far apart and quite expensive. I enjoyed my E30 more in a couple of days up in NC than I have in all of the years I owned it prior just because it's really boring to drive here and it seems a greater % of my time in my car is spent in traffic every year.Comment

Good point about the roads, boring to be stuck in a straight-line-only road type of state.Meh. From a car enthusiast's standpoint the good is limited to no snow, no inspections, no emissions tests. IMO an ideal car enthusiast's place would have temperate weather, no inspections, no emissions, nice curvy roads, and multiple road-course tracks. Somewhere where you could have a bit of property to build a huge shop/garage is also on my list.

There are still areas of FL where property values aren't ludicrous, but it isn't where I am (palm beach county). Don't get me wrong, I plan to stay in FL for other reasons, it's just not a great place from a car enthusiast's point of view. Northern/Central Florida is far better from that standpoint; property is cheaper, other states with good roads are closer (I'm 5hrs from the border), there are some hills and occasional somewhat curvy roads, and it's a bit less crowded.Comment
