I use the e30 subreddit more than Facebook for sure, but both are hot garbage really besides the occasional cool car. This forum has infinitely more value and 95% of all questions are already answered here (although the search kind of stinks). Kids these days have no patience for a search that doesn’t exactly give them the answer within one second.

I checked my build thread the other day to try to share with someone and the photos were all gone… what’s the best way to not lose my pictures over time? I think I used Imgur before.

Also, in a bit of a crisis of whether I should sell my e30 to someone who has time to enjoy it and buy an E34 that I can fit a car seat in and won’t feel bad daily driving, or S54 swap it over the next year an hour at a time when the kids are asleep and keep it forever.

the guy who helped me find my e30 had a kiddie seat in his e30. if you have more than 2 though you'll need a vehicle up(down)grade. he had to install some belt locks and pretty sure he drilled through the top deck, so not for everyone. the same needs done in an e34.

Interesting options listed there, I'm currently working on the lower anchors and have been curious how to get the top tether done so this is good timing.

6A LDY I think you will be disappointed going to an E34 from an E30 and you'll still have the same challenges when it comes to child seats.

I think the thing for me is access to the back seat (coupe, and I need to make the front seat sliders actually slide…) and with old cloth seats and a toddler, I’m nervous about ruining them. Plus this car is way too nice for my daughter to ride in! She needs to experience a clapped out rust bucket e30 before a nice one, as we all should.

No doubt though, the e34 is not going to be the same driving experience as a hopped up early model e30, but at least it’ll have an airbag or two, ABS and power steering lol

I tried that, I messed up though and accidentally ended up with an e46 m3 through no fault of my own. I can’t be trusted with these kind of decisions

so I posted a pic from today. A one-owner car. so I can't blame any issues on the PO.

Wow, this really is your lucky day! I've got an auto sedan with paint that's getting noticeably worse every month, scored cylinder walls, new head gasket that weeps oil, and a rebuilt head with serious cam/rocker pitting. Only minimal rust, so that'd be on you. ABS and power steering DO work though, so that's neat. Straight up trade?

                            Eh.
They're kinda high maintenance, and are E36- era in terms of durability
(we have 2 in the d-d fleet)

They're fine for taking the dog to the park and getting a cup of
overpriced coffee, but fixing the door latches and window regulators
every year gets old after a while.
Plus, with 'eight hundred integral ball joint-ended link suspension'
they get rather expensive when you're chasing that vibration that
they all get after hitting 120k...

Don't get me wrong, we're not getting rid of ours any time soon.
But they are high- maintenance hussies that handle... deliberately.

It's no surprise that they made the X5 out of them- they're BMW's 'Ute..'

                            Oh.

Now I want another wagon to make into
the 'El Bimeeno'... 'Branchero'... ok, the name needs work, but I
think the idea's... really bad, too.

                            t
now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

Nice to see this thread! I've always thought forums were the superior format, and R3V has endured the test of time.

I've been absent this year, dealing with health issues.
I don't think I've done any wrenching at all, so haven't felt like I had anything to contribute.
Sadly won't get to take out my E30 at all for 2025. But at least it isn't going anywhere.

I'd like to think that forums will regain interest as people get more fed up with the overload of junk out there in social media world. Similar to how the popularity of vinyl was revived, the retro (and infinitely less chaotic) experience of forums may be what the 'cool kids' are doing soon. So glad r3v survived the terminal fate of most OG forums.
