The PO who dorifto'd it and damaged it replaced the wheel and corner of the suspension. Not a big deal compared to dismantling an entire car, and you're left with a whole car instead of an exploded one.

Took it by the mechanic today and he says it's totally fixable and shouldn't cost much at all. Frame is still straight. :-) Now to convince the insurance company.

Good job! Watch those sneaky body shops when you repair it.

Yowch. As stated, definintely one of the worst spots. Depending on what kind of structural damage there is, it's on the line. Anything above 2 grand to fix will likely cause a writeoff as it's too close to the value of the car but you can def. buy it back thereafter.

That being said, if you have a good insurance company, you might be able to convince them that the car is worth closer to 5-6k, in which case you stand a better chance of getting it fixed. Start collecting evidence (FS threads, CL posts) of similar E30s and their selling prices.

                I've got USAA and they're fantastic :-)

It took the hit really low so it looks like they won't even need to cut and weld anything on the body to fix it. Eyeballing it myself, I would guess the repair shouldn't cost anything over 1200 said and done.

I also starting collecting ads about the value and such, plus I have all the recent maintenance I've had done.

I've got USAA too and their initial appraised value of my 1989 with 101,000 miles and with a completely rebuilt s52 with 1700 miles on it, roll bar, Sparco seats etc was $3600.
After sending in $13,000 of recent receipts they increased the appraised value to $8200 total.
I wish I had a different company at this point because they can't handle a valuing my modified car.

They appraised mine at roughly $3600 dollars based on valuations of a 1992 318is and 1991 318i found in California. I told them to expand their search and will be providing receipts. It really blows extra because I wasn't at any fault.

Guess I'll have to see what happens. :-\

does your insurance company have an appraisal clause?

they can't use a 92 318is to compare to yours as it's an entirely different car. Somebody who wants a '91 is not going to be interested in a '92.. and a '92 is basically a $2500 car at best.

mine did the same thing, compared my '91 ix to a 92 and 93 325i with like 250,000 miles. Yeah, not even close to the same thing. Luckily Ameriprise has an appraisal clause.
