Not a fan of stance... not to mention how much harder it is on the car.

Ahh. I didn't realize they weren't sold here.

Some 40 Land Rover owners across the U.S. woke up Tuesday morning to police and federal investigators knocking on their doors and demanding they hand over their trucks. Officials say it's part of an ongoing criminal investigation into the illegal importation of Land Rovers into this country, Jalopnik has learned.

This is a pretty interesting read about it, it's no joke to the government for some reason

I do think a modest amount of camber looks good, but not a ridiculous, unsafe amount. And I couldn't imagine riding a car that low that wasn't a high end supercar or something with adjustable ride height like our E60 M5.

It's a show of force on behalf of an incompetent organization, doing something to look like you're actually accomplishing something even though you're not
"look at us we're doing something! we're protecting you!"
                Just like the TSA.

If it matters or needs to be done, the government will cock it up, but if it's irrelevant, trifling bullshit, they will throw down and make it a serious matter and then make a big song and dance about it.

They aren't illegal. We had them up to 1997. LR wouldn't put passenger SRS systems in them when the US required them.

The only issues with importing them are they look the same, and share many body panels, as the older series trucks. People frame swap 1991+ trucks onto older frames and try to bring them over. THATs the issue. Any Defender from 1990 and back is fine.

You can buy one (25yr or older) in the UK and import it for under $10k if you know what you're doing.

Or buy one (25yr or older) for much more from an importer because they have to deal with the hassle, customs, etc. I mean, really, it's the same shit as importing, say, an e30 touring. Defenders aren't some voodoo car.

...or just buy a NAS one for much more, $50k+.

Also, they are AWESOME. There's just some allure to them I never really WANTED one until seeing them in person, in action.

My buddy had one in high school and it was cool. Pretty unstoppable off road, but it had zero options, basically gutted interior from the factory. Not worth the cost IMO, other than cool factor. For what he (his Dad) paid for it you could build a much more capable Jeep.

Yeah, but everyone has a Jeep.

I'm not gonna argue over Jeep vs LR, yeah, Defenders are $$$$ for what you get, but you don't buy a Defender to drive a Jeep. You buy a Defender to drive a Defender.

1990 back is the 25 year old rule. Did the really come here until 97?
Curious because if you are right, why aren't 1996's legal, or are they?
