Very true. I'm starting a tig welding class at CAC later this month so I'm hoping I can catch on quickly to be able to do some work on the e30. But do you have any recommendations for a spot out here that can fix the crack on my pan and add a drain fitting if I dont feel comfortable doing it?

Got my shifter assembly today from e30partsonline. Also got my driveshaft from there in the past. Prices have been very reasonable and shipping has been fast, plus excellent packaging.

Also scored this Elring head gasket kit from RockAuto for $40.

Unrelated but got these rear shocks for my Focus ST as well. Need to get the fronts and some lowering springs now. At 135k miles, a refresh is well overdue. I had Feal coil-overs for about 50k miles but sold them a while ago.

Next I'll be purchasing a clutch and flywheel to complete most of my manual swap. I still need the bottom end gasket kit. Any opinions on paper vs cork gasket? And opinions on McMasterr Metric Blues for head bolts?

If I have some free time I can tig it at work if needed. Otherwise Josh at Jspec fab can get you done if you feel like waiting a long time (he's incredibly slow). Hes a buddy of mine that runs a SxS fab shop down the road from my shop here in town, just dont expect it to be done in any sort of timely fashion. 633 W. 1st Street, Casa Grande, AZ 85122 is his address.

Quick question: are the valve springs the only thing limiting a b27 head from reaching higher rpm's? I have a chance to buy a second rebuilt b27 head for cheap so I might get it and change it to dual springs later. I haven't been able to find an 885 locally for a reasonable price.

I think this is correct info (you should double check it), the b27 head has smaller valves, single valve springs, a 3 bearing cam, and is designed for the dished eta pistons. An 885 head out of a seta should have the 7 cam bearings (some of them may not be drilled for oil), single valve springs, and a domed head for the seta/i pistons. The seta cam has a smaller diameter, so it can't be re-ground into a performance I cam.

I wouldn't buy the eta head, I'd wait for a b25 885 to pop up.

Id get the ETA head if its free and you want to practice porting out a head, otherwise just keep your eyes open for a 885 and make sure its pressure tested

Ok I'll just wait for the 885.

Today was decent for the hour I spent in the garage. Removed my power steering and installed the Ireland Engineering delete.

Just found out it has a Z3 rack so that's cool.

Got all my gaskets as well.

And cleaned up the timing covers.

The last thing I need to do before putting it back together is get the oil pan welded.

I bought this adapter from IE. Would I still need to have a drain on my oil pan?

That fitting is just a feed line, you'd still need a place to drain to even with that.

                    Thank you

I ran into another challenge while going over parts I need to order. My transmission is a late model i transmission so it's missing the reference holes on the side for the sensors the eta needs. I guess I can try to see if anyone could trade me 260s. Has anyone tapped the holes themselves? At this point I feel like I should just buy a m20b25.

Saving money for the Summer since the garage is going to be too hot to work in soon. But I did get this in the mail.

Have you thought much about turbo size? An EFR 7163 or 7670 with that manifold would be incredible, but that’s also a $2k turbo.

The s200sx-e series seems to be a solid choice for half the price. Something like an s252 or s257.

I have not thought about it but I will consider those when I start shopping for a turbo.

On some good news, I ordered the correct manual transmission for my 325e. Bad news is that I'll be using the m20b27 for now. But at least I can progress with the build again.
