More precious cargo in the Giulia.

Decided to just wrap up the other rocker now, but rather than the weeks and months of work doing it at my place, I just handed the car, the parts and the welder to Chilezen so he could work on it. This saves him the hassle of making the long drive to me or making arrangements with his boss.

In the meantime I’m going to try and get the trunk lid painted, and we’ll see what happens with that 2L

I saw the car in his story yesterday I think. Is that going to be the last of the rust repair plan?
The car is looking really good in those pics.Originally posted by priapismMy girl don't know shit, but she bakes a mean cupcake.Originally posted by shamesonUsually it's best not to know how much money you have into your e30Comment

Yup, thats the last bit of the 'rust-repair' plan.
The Driverside jacking point needs a repair, mostly from the rusty rocker compromising the strength of the jacking point leading to a slightly collapsed floor and now non-existent jacking point... But thats a problem for another day.
The plan is to get this done, get paint on the trunklid and hopefully get the rockers painted as well. At that point the only way any other rust will be dealt with is by taking the car completely down to metal and deal with whatever is hiding underneath, but thats not likely to ever happen.

It sounds like the end is near, I'm sure you're excited to have it solid and all in one colour again.

I was looking at the rust in Chilezen's instagram story. Good to know the PO kept up the same quality work all around the car lolOriginally posted by priapismMy girl don't know shit, but she bakes a mean cupcake.Originally posted by shamesonUsually it's best not to know how much money you have into your e30Comment

That is, exactly what is looks like... a little patch of rusty metal intended to cover a rusty hole in the floor... Some guy looked at this and said, Yep, that'll do.Comment

Couple of pics.. Here I'm probably halfway through the process. The rust is cut out, and I've already welded in one of the new strips of metal that acts as the new base for the new panels to bond to. The primer paint is a special, weld-thru primer, so the metal is protected even as I cover it up and weld on the other side.
I had to patch up extra parts where the rust really ran up the side.Comment

Here is the new inner panel welded on.
You can't really see the other patches, but they're there to better seal the compartment. From the factory, it was an open chamber, which is probably how water got in and it rusted to much in the first place. ...I didn't seal it totally, but at least there's not a large entry way for road debris to get in.
This doesn't need to be pretty, it's going hidden by the outer panel.Comment
