Id probably add a little more slack into those oil lines to the Tstat to compensate for engine movement and vibrations. That plastic end tank may not fair well. :)

Managed to shoe horn an exhaust housing blanket in after the new turbo install. All usable space is gone. Not ideal. The correct oil lines and restrictors has fixed my small over oiling problem which means work on this part of the project is done.

Self centering shift kit from Garagistic has shipped and is due here in a few days time. Once this is installed the car will be off jackstands and off to Dose BMW in El Cajon CA for proper engine tuning.Leave a comment:

Thanks guys,
The total bill on the car has risen to well into the 16k range. I made the mistake of totaling it all up the other day. So to celebrate, lets add more parts we dont really need...
Oil cooler with in line thermostat.

The bumper needed a tiny bit of shaving from the plastic fins to fit the cooler here. Spacing just forward enough to clear the AC fan. My original plan was to run it right behind the kidneys but there is not enough room here with the PS cooler. The lower bumper location is more visible (which I originally didn't want) but after I made the mounts and test fit it ended up looking pretty good. Subtle and unnoticed to the untrained eye.
Specs on the cooler:
Clean Injection filter top
-10AN lines and fittings
DNA motoring ( eBay) 10 row cooler
Mishimoto in line thermostat. 185 degree
We get decently cold winters here in UT and the summers are wicked hot. Im hoping the t-stat will work right. The oil thermostat is set up on a slider mount so I can shift the system from one side to the other when installing or removing AN lines. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to work with. The lines going into the filter housing look taunt but there is slack to allow for some chassis engine movement. Should work ok. The plan is to run the lines down to the cooler underneath the power steering cooler lines and through the plastic air guide behind the bumper. This routing should give me the shortest possible route to the cooler and back to the engine while still leaving enough room behind the headlight to change a bulb or adjust.Leave a comment:

Coming together nicely, Refreshing color combo. Also makes me miss my 530iT... Really comfortable cars.
Mystems rock. I can't believe how awesome of wheel they are. I wish I appreciated them earlier.
Looking forward to more progress.

3rd time go round with turbo inlet and charge piping. Lets hope this final design will satisfy and work well.

The ebay churb blow T28 was pissing me off so I took it out and put in a slightly larger, better quality ball bearing snail. We are planning to get the car tuned in socal at the end of this month.

Its pretty freakin tight on space bottom mounted. The turbo cant be installed all in one piece. Exhaust housing, then CHRA, then compressor housing. Serious pain in the ass. Would not recommend. I wanted a bottom mount so this is what I get for my design.
New turbo has a .83 exhaust housing and a slightly smaller compressor wheel. I am after full boost right at 2500 rpm. The main goal for this car is usable power for daily driving. I am hoping I can make most (if not all of my power) before 5k rpm. Turbo size will likely choke out up top some but I dont really care. 80% of driving for me lives in the sub 5k range. Itll be interesting to see how it dynos out.

Intake side done. Not much other progress other than waiting for a self-centering shifter to come in. 5/10 progress on little things.

IAT temps were a little bit high due to my extravagant piping design to put the air intake in the factory location. Several hours of wasted fabrication time. Intake filter is now on the passenger side of the engine bay. Here is the end result after a few hours and some aluminum sheet.

Weekend shenanigans begin with small tasks like this IC mist switch. Fun.

Nice work on the exhaust, I hear you on that drone.... PM sent.

Finished the exhaust last weekend. Stock resonator and muffler were starting to piss me off. Vibrant ultra quiet resonator to SuperSprint muffler. Tricky to make a good 2 to 1 collector but managed to get it clean. Still need to add one last hanger using the stock locations on the rear subframe and adjust the Vband clamps. Exhaust has nice low tone but still sounds pretty quiet. Hoping it will be nice for daily driving.

Throwing stars finally refinished and on the car. Fitting nicely with stock M5 tire sizes 235s up front and 255s rear. Tinkering around with the offset I am finding that a 5mm spacer up front and 3mm in the rear should be ok. The M systems will fit over the new front brakes without any spacers which is nice however we run into the tire rubbing against the coilovers up front. As of now we have about 5-7mm of clearance so we will see how that favors when driving.
Not much else going on now as I have been waiting for parts to arrive for the shift linkage I am working on. After some further deliberation I have also decided to make some changes to the center exhaust section and remove the stock resonator. Originally, I had planned to keep it to make sure the exhaust stays quiet, and I do not have any drone. I hate drone, especially in a daily driven car. Problem is the stock resonator is so restrictive that I believe it to be causing issues with turbo spool. The turbo will build boost, but it does it slowly and won't make more than 10psi even with the boost controller adjusted. The wastegate spring is 8lbs so I should be able to make 16 psi with the current setup. I ordered a vibrant ultra quite 2.5 in/out resonator and stainless mandrel bends to fabricate a custom mid-section that will fit my SuperSprint muffler. Hoping to get that project going here as soon as parts arrive.
More to come.
