    Thanks!

I've got new turbo rebuild parts coming (from a more reputable source than eBay/China) which will give me more piece of mind when it all goes back together. I've already had the compressor wheel, shaft, and turbine wheel independently balanced so I don't have to worry about their orientation when it all fits together.

I've also got the new injector wiring harness I need to attach so that I can re-install the fuel rail. Then there's some wiring and switches to wrap up, and hopefully I can get it to the exhaust shop before the end of the month!

      M30 OEM Turbo project

It's been a while since I update this!

I sent the rebuilt turbo out for balancing at a local shop. They balance the wheels individually, so that when it goes back together the orientation isn't as critical. It also means I can take it it apart without screwing up the balance. They did notice though that something wasn't quite right when they went to put it together, which led me down this rabbit hole:

Long story short, I finally got all the quality pieces I needed to really rebuild this thing the right way, 100%.

New Melett 360* thrust bearing vs the eBay 270* bearing

New thrust washer (eBay kit didn't include this)

The smaller, secondary kit included a new flinger ring design meant to simplify the OEM design. Unfortunately it didn't quite fit my turbo as the backing plate was too thick and caused the assembly to bind when I tightened the shaft nut. Oh well, $20 lost but no harm done.

I didn't take any pictures of the install (it's exactly the same as what I posted earlier in the thread). Here it is back in the car!

I like the new heatsheilds and gauge wiring. I wish mine was that clean.
Maybe a 4-bolt to v-band downpipe adapter for your turbine?

Yes it's a little pricey, but you only need 1 sheet for 99% of applications. I've used about 50% of mine so far, I don't know if I'll need the rest or not. Once the exhaust is done I'll have to see where some other good opportunity areas will be.

SUB'D. phenomenal. enjoyed every post. was worried about your turbo rebuild early on - glad to see you had everything balanced and found reputable replacement bits.

what are you using to create the wire labels?

I'm using a normal office-type label printer with 1/4" tape.

Managed to accomplish a few other things, like getting the oil drain hose on:

Also had to make some adjustments to the motor mount arm so that it would clear the compressor housing

But I got the turbo up pipe wrapped in fiberglass (trying to keep it cool) and installed. Plus I test-fitted the front heat shield

                              And mounted the intercooler
