Next I pulled and wrinkle-painted the new charge pipe to match the rest of the engine bay. I also wrapped the area closest to the exhaust manifold in exhaust wrap to help keep the temps down.
Then I decided it was probably a good idea to check the oil bar bolts and do a valve adjustment, since I have literally never done either of those things in as long as I've owned this motor (which is 9 years...)
All the valves were good, if maybe a little tight. Set to 0.012" now. I also ordered new NGK BP7ES plugs which should be here tomorrow!

I safety wire mine.
if you have a M106 wastegate it should only go to 6psi. there is some fuckery you can do to make it internally adjustable, but it's a decent bit of work.
As far as the WG, everything I've read on mye28 and bf.c says that without a boost signal to the lower chamber it should hit roughly 15psi. I've been having this conversation with the 745i experts over there and they seem to agree that something must be up with it internally: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...ntroller/page2

Dude! Wow, this has been a crazy journey. Congratulations on making it this far and you've made it look damn good, too. I would have skipped work and watched the dyno pulls just for fun if I had known. :)
Awesome car. I can't wait to see it in person.-NickOriginally posted by 87e30First of all: calm the fuck down; second of all; cool story bro.

Welllllll this weekend sure was fun :)
Went up to Tacoma to visit Mr Crivellone and attend the BMW CCA 100th Anniversary party (http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=385536). Car ran flawlessly the entire trip up and the morning of the show. Went to leave the show and head back to Criv's when things started going.... weird.
- Running rich, with a strong smell of unburned fuel. Made it about 1 mile before the engine conked out entirely.
- Opened hood and found the entire engine/bay soaked in fuel :eeek:
- Primed fuel pump and fuel exploded from the tiny hose between the FPR and the return line. Called Criv and Jeff, and Jeff came to pick me up and get some more hose.
- Installed new hose, primed pump, fuel exploded from FPR where it attaches to the rail... the o-ring was also bad!
- Pick up new o-ring and install. Car cranks but doesn't start. WTF? WBO2 shows totally lean, spark plugs are sparking, but no fuel. Realize Fuse 11 is blown?? Replace fuse.
- Pop! fuse blows again. Swap in 15A fuse, it holds. Car starts but is still running rough and rich. Limp it to Criv's house.
- Get there, park, and open hood. More raw fuel, this time near the back of the head. We realize nearly every fuel fitting is leaking! WTF?
- The guys notice that return line (post-FPR) is under extreme pressure, and the fuel pump sounds like it's struggling. In fact the entire fuel system is under extreme pressure, hence the leaks, over-amping, etc.
- Eventually realize the return line is blocked/plugged, start tearing it apart as best as we can
- The hardlines under the car are 100% free and clear; the blockage is somewhere inside the hard line after it enters back in to the tank (where coincidentally it remains a hardline, welded in place in several spots, and with a neck-down point that is likely the location of the blockage, but totally and completely unreachable).
- Realize the only way to fix the car is to replace the ENTIRE fuel tank, or create a bypass line around the plugged line (which would require fitting new parts, or drilling/attaching a nipple, or...
- What time is it? Fuck, it's like 8:30... fuck this, time for food and beer. Plus Andrew and I still have to drive back to Portland!
So my hoopty is sitting in Criv's driveway, all broken-down and reeking of fuel. So I get to ride the train up next weekend, fix it, and drive back down :) Yay cars!

Wow. Just wow.
So something broke itself loose in the fuel system and made it almost all the way back to the fuel tank? Clearly has nothing to do with the turbo install. Did you make any changes to the fuel system? Genuinely curious..
At least you broke down in great company man. Life happens :-)I BUY/SELL REFURBISHED CM5907s & CM5908s
