I've got a Scirocco Radiator in there where both inlet and outlet are on the passenger side.

I used a late model upper hose to get from the Tstat housing to the upper rad neck (pass side).

I used the late model lower radiator hose from the Tstat housing, to the metal bypass hose from a late model, to a late model rad hose from the bypass hose to the lower rad neck. Everything fits pretty damn good! I'll take pictures when I have time this weekend, it all looks clean.

Excited to see how you finish up the tunnel! Keep it up bro, huge motivation for me. If I were closer i'd buy you a beer.

Wow $40 for a new radiator? That's a steal! I dont think I can run it though with these motor mounts & a 3" core intercooler. I dont have enough room to run the late model bypass hose The tunnel comes next

Glad I can help motivate you! I read a lot of your threads on 2002faq about wiring for an m20 and a couple other misc things that were necessary for the swap.

Ahh I see, yeah I forgot your rad is thicker!!

That guy with the white 2002 is running the same mounts you are and he's saying the same thing as far as how high those mounts set the engine. Kinda makes me glad I went with the cheaper ones, not as clean looking but fitment has been great, specially with the late model shift linkage.

Yeah, we should PM when you start going through your tunnel. Would be dope to do them at the same time and bounce ideas off each other! Glad we can help each other out, the community of M20 swapped 2002's seems to be pretty small and not many like to speak out but it seems more and more are coming out of the woodwork and being built.

Did you take a look at the Trans Tunnel Tony B built on 2002faq in the M20 swapped 2002 thread? It's on Page 5 or 6, take a look, really basing mine off that.

EDIT - added the pics of the tunnel..

Where mine is at, at the moment. (let me know if you can't see the pic, i'm linking from my gmail.)

You can see plenty of space to mount the rear carrier bracket for the late model shifter. Just wanted to share some pictures, cause I know seeing how others have gotten down has really helped me come up with a game plan, I think about this damn car all day at work. haha.

I really wish I would've gone with different mounts. These have been such a hassle to deal with, but that's how it goes. I've already managed to make it all work, so there's not much point in switching now besides getting a lower COG and moving the motor further behind the front axel. Both of which I would've loved to do.........:(

Wow that's a very different way to do the tunnel. Much cleaner than trying to stitch what remains of my stock one back together! Yeah, there are a few m20 swapped 02s like you said, but a lot of details have been left out. Like how to actually run the throttle cable/which one to use lol.

So with regards to the trans tunnel, you're cutting out that flap that's left on top of yours right?

The pics showed up, thanks for sharing! Yeah, you have a lot of room for the shifter carrier. Or you can do what I did and mount it on top of the tunnel lmao

This thing is always on my mind too! I'm constantly bouncing ideas around trying to figure out what my next move should be. BTW, I ended up ordering the catuned 2002/e30 diff swap axels. I didn't get the whole subframe, bc I have an old e30 subframe and spare 02 one to cut up and modify to work. This way though I'll have brand new strong axles right out of the box

That rear end build is going to be tits.

I've got some good ideas from Tony about how to run the Throttle Cable, when you get there i'll share some insight! :)

Yeah, the top flap is going to get cut, maybe leave a 1"- 1 1/2" of it off the firewall to have something to work off of.

K, i'll shut the fuck up now.

Oh, I've got the throttle cable to work & I ended up adapting an e30 gas pedal/linkage to work. I grabbed a random cable from the JY and just cut it to fit.

I hope the rear end works out. Hopefully the axles show up next week so I can finally start on it. My e30 3.73S diff is waiting to be dropped in. Going to convert to mk4 disks at the same time bc they're cheap and readily available.

Nah, feel free to keep responding. It's nice to have someone that knows the hell I'm going though hahahaha

That diff and the axles are going to make it drive so much nicer..

Once i'm running i'm stuck with the diff that came with the car till I can save some dough for the CAtuned rear end. Automatic Diff FTL. lol

After spending so much time with the little M20 2002; I used to think M30's in E30s were a tight fit.

It better drive better! Those axles weren't cheap :hitler: But I'm excited to swap in the diff. It'll have identical gearing to my old e30, which I loved. So that + the motor refresh/new clutch + loosing a few hundred lbs by switching chassis should put me in a good spot! This car came with an LSD, but I can't tell the ratio, there's no tag on the diff.

Yeah, my engine bay is crazy tight. If I wasn't using solid mounts all around I'd be worried. It's probably a lot better with the manimal mounts,

I have mm's of clearance btwn my electric fan and alternator. The water pump and radiator are also crazy close.

Yeah i'll show you what kind of clearance i'm working with with my cooling system, everything is placed pretty nicely, really no issues with clearance aside from the tunnel (mainly the bellhousing/firewall area) - I'm using the same shit as that white 2002 but I cut more out of my nose then he did, Still figuring out what to use as a fan.. Someone said a 13" SPAL should work ok?

I'm running a 12" puller mishimoto. I am also going to run a fan shroud, which is definitely necessary for running a smaller fan. I've yet to see it's cooling capabilities since I just got the radiator back last night. I should be able to see how good a job it does cooling next week, seeing as that's the start of spring break & I'm going to try to take a mini trip in it, even with the open tunnel haha. I need to see how everything else is going to work. I read every thread on m20s and electric fans. Nobody could give a real CFM minimum value to keep the motor cool.

True, biggest thing for me, at least when I had this same engine in my E30 rat - was picking up a Autometer temp gauge and keeping an eye on it for piece of mind. I had the E30 aux fan wired up to a switch on High and I never had issues with cooling, matter of fact, the only time I needed to use the fan was after sitting at a stop for longer then 3-4 minutes.

I could take the temp down from 215 deg to 180-190 (even lower if I kept the fan on longer) real quick once the fan was on.

Can't wait to get real life info/results from you once you start driving this thing every day. I know you'll drive yours harder then I will.

Yup, I've got a temp gauge. I'' have the fan wired by a SPST switch for now, and then I'll wire it to a temp switch after I see the rang of temps the motor experiences.

So I tackled the rest of the cooling system today. I ran the hoses to the radiator

Then I tried a different hose I liked better for the upper hose

The with the coolant hoses officially made I decided it was time to mount the electric fan. I'll be making the fan shroud later for it

Cool project, that little turbo must spool fast on an M20, looks like the same hotside as the one I'm running on my M42, compressor housing is a little bigger though. John was welding up your radiator while I was at his shop the other day getting a wheel bearing done, your project sounded interesting so I'm glad I found it.
