Looks sweet, I like that carbon fiber beauty cover, I have a feeling my plastic one is gonna melt as well because I have the same downpipe routing with a larger turbo. Where'd you get that thing and how does it fit?

Run a quart of ATF through your engine for 15 minutes at idle next oil change before you drain the oil. Lifter tick be damned!
Also overfill oil 1/2 quart past the full line helps get rid of it. I had horrible lifter tick during track days after pulling off the track. Sounded like a diesel running 0w40, switched to 15w50 and it's mostly gone, only comes up after running the engine at 5000+ rpm for extended periods

Also where are you running your oil feed from? Noticed the hose goes to the rear of the engine?

Beauty cover is for an m54, got it from ebay for AU$189. Fits well, a little warped but straightens out when bolted down. Standard cheap Chinese product but will do the job.

Oil is routed from the vanos bolt, it's just a really long feed line

Fixed some exhaust leaks. Had lost two nuts off the manifold flange and the rest had loosed enough to cause some leaks.

The turbo flange had also loosened enough to blow out the crappy gasket that came with the manifold so replaced that with a steel one and all is well again.

Also had a dyno day last friday to see how its running. I'd managed to implement boost control using the evap purge output and a MAC valve thanks to some help from mrf582 at romraider and it worked flawlessly holding boost perfectly!

End result was 309kw (415hp) on a mainline dyno. We dont have dynojet over here in Australia however it appears that mainline is upto 20% lower than dynojet which *could* mean if i tested in the US, i would be around 500hp.
Unfortunately i didnt get external video of the power run, only the first complete run however it was still wheelspinning on the dyno. To get the final run in they had to sit a person in the back seat and two people in the boot.

          Dyno Video

Unfortunately i also maxed the DME load limits once again which resulted in a pretty lean condition at the end of the run. Obviously i could never get to that limit on the road so never expected i'd hit it again.
I was very pleased that my open loop fueling was pretty much where i wanted it to be (around 11:1) throughout the run prior to this though.
I've already halved all the load values in the DME once before. Have halved them again now so that issue is addressed.

            New dyno results.
Still have some work to do up top in the fueling, but the results speak for themselves :)

Think im out of fuel now too with my 340lph pump. Have ordered a walbro 450 to replace it.

Not much going on lately. Swapped out my booster as the old Clio booster had such a bad leak I only had manual brakes. Used a '99 clio booster this time and it's actually slightly smaller than the old one.

While I was at it, I also swapped out the deka 80s with some bosch ev14 1000cc items. Still dialing them in, but they seem to idle better than the dekas.

This is a killer read mate. As someone currently working on an M50 turbo build. I really appreciate the documentation. Anything in particular you would have done differently from the get go? I expect to learn a lot along the way during my project.

I would have bought the donor e36 from the start instead of just the engine. Would have saved alot from being able to salvage all the other items like steering rack etc.

Other than that, I was always going to refresh everything, so the only thing I could have done was move to USA for a bit to save money on postage! Approx 1/3rd of my build costs are related to postage; that's about $3000!

Side note: have decided to see if injector dynamics are all they're cracked up to be, so picked up a set of 1050x injectors the other week and will install once I get back from my honeymoon

Currently addressing an oil leak from my return pipe. It's leaking out from the hose end of the fitting as opposed to the threaded area. Might be the cheap fittings I used. Have ordered a new one that I hope will fix it once and for all.
