First hook up to the dyno today.

Idle is as low as 1900rpm with Ethanol in the tank (e85)

Running smooth. Unfortunately for some reason the thermostat didn't open and it got too hot, so we couldn't do any runs with it. We're removing the thermostat and running it open on Monday. Also, there appears to be a wiring issue with the electric fan that needs to be trouble shot.

Either way, it ran through all gears under load for the first time!

Just running the Mishimoto Aluminum Rad:
An ideal upgrade for the brittle stock BMW radiator, the Mishimoto E30/E36 Performance Aluminum Radiator provides your vehicle with enhanced reliability and improved cooling efficiency. BMWs are known to have frequent cooling-related failures due to the use of numerous plastic components throughout the system. A simple coolant leak can result in overheating, accelerated engine wear, or head gasket failure. Whether you have a daily-driven E36 M3 or an M20 spinning a large turbocharger, this E30 and E36 radiator provides ideal temperatures on and off the track. Most people overlook the importance of installing an upgraded radiator in their vehicle. Along with providing increased coolant capacity, this BMW radiator improves heat dissipation, which is beneficial for both stock and modified applications. The Mishimoto E30/E36 Performance Aluminum Radiator is manufactured using durable aircraft-quality aluminum end tanks, precision TIG-welded to an efficient brazed aluminum core. The inlet and outlets provide precise leak-free connections, and all factory overflow and temperature sensor ports are present on the Mishimoto E30 and E36 radiator for use with stock sensors and hoses. This BMW radiator also includes a M16 x 1.5 Magnetic Oil Drain Plug with dowty seal, which effectively removes metal fragments circulating in the cooling system. The Mishimoto BMW Performance Aluminum Radiator incorporates mounting points for the factory external automatic transmission cooler, and it is a direct bolt-on fit for all 6-cylinder E30/E36 models from 1988 to 1991. As with all our BMW parts, this aluminum BMW radiator includes the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty, ensuring superior product quality and craftsmanship.

          and the e-fan kit
Keep your BMW E36 cool with the Mishimoto Performance Fan Shroud Kit! This unique electric fan shroud setup completely eliminates the stock, failure-prone mechanical fan. The fan shroud mounts directly to the stock radiator, Mishimoto Performance Aluminum Radiator and Mishimoto X-Line Performance Aluminum Radiator and includes a 16" high-flow electric fan that produces over 1850 cfm of airflow. Optionally, this kit can include a Mishimoto Adjustable Fan Controller Kit, which will provide the user with total control over coolant temperatures. The Mishimoto BMW E36 Fan Shroud Kit includes all hardware required for installation and is compatible with the stock expansion tank. This fan shroud has a Stealth Black finish that provides a subtle accent for your engine bay. As with all our products, this fan shroud kit includes the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty you know and trust.

Bringing the car to Wolfsgart show in Essex Jct, VT tomorrow.

It’s not fully buttoned up, but it runs and drives. Only have it tuned up to 4,000rpm right now because we had the Crank Position Sensor fail. Next week we should have it back on the dyn for 4,000 -> 10,000rpm and then start adjusting for dyno runs.

Almost done. Final tuning pass this coming week with power runs coming shortly after. Tuner is flying into Vermont from Dubai to tune a 2,400hp Lambo, and we may do another pass on it while he’s in town if there’s time.

We’re expecting to blow the initial power targets out of the water with what we’ve seen so far.

Unfortunately we ran into the issue with the 4,000rpm limit that the ECU was giving us.

We were back and forth with ECUMasters for a few months, and another project came up at the shop during this so it was taken off the dyno for the fall. No rush, since it’s winter, but a couple weeks ago the issue was discovered, and it was given a new base tune starting at 10,800rpm and working DOWN to idle, rather than tuning up from idle.

It no longer has any hesitation at startup, and idles smoothly at 1,100rpm with very little surging. Instant start on key turn, which we weren’t expecting to get with the cams.

We have full power tunes scheduled for the 26th and 28th of this month once a twin turbo v10 R8 is off the Dyno.

Zero chance this isn’t running in full effect before spring, but likely won’t be on the road before April due to the salt.

Idling is between 950 and 1050rpm. Very stable. Much lower than the 1300-3,000 surging it originally had.

Had the first dyno day today with the new tune. No limits on RPM, unfortunately something came loose in the driveline after a few 9,300+rpm runs. Assumption here is the CSB / Flex Disc. If this in the case, we’re going to swap in a solid CSB Mount and Solid Flex Disc to solve this in the future.

According to the tuner, accounting for Dyno Calibration, todays conclusion before we hit pause was:

                          260hp Crank
                          170ftlb Crank

                          Peak power @ 7,800rpm
                          power through 9,400rpm.
                          cutoff will likely be 9,600rpm.

There’s still power to be made on additional runs, but there was too much driveline movement to continue today. Hopefully final power numbers will be known end of this week or next week if we have to order CSB & Flex Disc.

Not sure, as tuner said what I was seeing on the dyno screen wasn't accurate. But, it was posting 173 on the dyno end. When I asked, saying that was low, he said its 260 crank currently, with some room left. This isnt my specialty, though.
