Since it seems like the chassis will be coming home soon I need to catch up on a few sub-assemblies before long. I want to be able to install the fuel/brake lines, fuel tank, and full suspension while the car is still on the rotisserie on its side in my driveway. This will both save my back, and will make for some slick photo ops.

Once that is done I can rotate it right side up and bolt the wheels on, lower it onto the ground and retract the rotisserie so I can then roll the car into the garage for continued work.

The rotisseries total loaded length is just slightly longer than my garage is end to end by a few inches.

Main task I tackled today was building out our four calipers.

        Rear caliper components:

Piston and new guides installed in a caliper body:

        Both rear calipers built out:

        Front caliper components:

Piston and boot installed in a caliper body:

        Both front calipers built out:

I'm glad their skills with body work is better than their taste in music, lol.

Not a whole lot going on in my department right now. Small change of plans at the bodyshop in that they want to set the front end panel gaps with the car normally loaded, which is a really wise idea. While the rotisserie picks up on the frame attachments and *should* not abnormally stress the empty shell its not something we want to risk given all the fastening hardware for the fenders, valance etc are painted over as factory and adjustments later means breaking paint which means breaking my heart.

I need to prepare a wise host of additional parts along with the already built out suspension sub assemblies to take up to the body shop and install on the chassis so it can be lowered off the rotisserie and onto load itself out normally.

The front and rear suspension is already complete and ready to go for the most part, although I did have to toss the rear shock hardware together.

Bilstein Sports "B8" with Meyle HD RSM's and freshly replated original hardware.

I also need to prepare the fuel, brake lines that run the length of the vehicle because they run behind the rear subframe and one line runs behind the fuel tank.

Speaking of the fuel tank needs to go in before the rear suspension as well so that needs to be prepared too.

Then allll of this needs to get oh so carefully loaded in the back of my F25 and gingerly driven up there for installation.

I just noticed, did you have the ski-pass welded up?

                  Comment

Yup, I reinstalled the knock out panel (from my parts car) and lightly tack welded it in the factory spots around the perimeter.

We recently got a new to us 80gal ultrasonic cleaning machine from Omegasonics and I've been cleaning all sorts of shit in it. It really makes your life easy getting grim dislodged and washed away especially in places you can't physically reach to scrub.

I dropped the best set of 30 year old seat sliders I had in there to run for an hour.

                      and then an hour later

Now that they are actually clean I can go ahead and blast the areas with surface rust clean and then paint them.

Moving back to some cleaner stuff I dropped the new VDO fuel pump into the fuel tank, slide the original vapor honed level sensor into its home and bolted it all down. Topped it all off with some new 8x13mm Continental fuel injection hose and a pair of oetiker clamps to finish it all off. I really dislike unsightly hose clamps and this car will be going back together with oetiker clamps everywhere I can utilize them.

Nice to know that I'm not only one using those :D Most people hate those, but I think those are handy and give that sweet sweet OEM look. https://pazi88.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Projek...810_182501.jpg

This is like watching BMW assembling this car new in 1991. Love it.

If you have the right tools they are really nice. Especially if its in a place you do not need to unclamp regularly!

                                Bodywork ongoing...

The brand new front valance (straight from the dealer) is about as straight as a pile of dog shit. Honestly it is unbelievable how piss poor sheet metal from the South Africa factory is these days. This is actually the second valance ordered from the dealer, the first I rejected thinking it was an exception.. nope.. these are just shit now.

Probably needs 10+ hours of work before its acceptable. Note the trunk, interior and engine bay are meticulously back masked to ensure they don't get covered with dust from this stage of the work. Attention to detail is very important and Imperial Collision has an abundance of it!

First course of blocking on the chassis after high build primer was applied.
