Before I realized I had a swap to do, I had a few things on order from the dealer. Just little things that bugged me.
The latch and knurled knob for the jack were corroded and gross.

                  So they were replaced

Also I finally got to installing the rear foglight light on the instrument cluster. Now whenever the rear fog light is turned on, the instrument cluster lets me know. This pic is with the rear and front (if I had front) fog lights turned on.

Also am going to make an effort to get my instrument cluster fully functional so there is less confusion when the motor is swapped as to how to adapt it to my cluster. It's better to get the cluster working with my current motor, and then do the swap and make the necessary provisions, rather than to have a faulty cluster, do the swap, and not know whether I'm doing the provisions right while I have a faulty cluster... if that made sense.
So trying to stay period correct, I got an early, fully functioning Si Board (5 Green, 1 yellow, 3 red) and installed it. Still have some work to do on it however.

Anyways, the motor comes out the day after tomorrow and then the cleaning begins! :)

If you plan on having a working tach with the M30 you're going to need a 87+ cluster with a coding chip.

Hey I was thinking, shouldn't you have euro H4/H1's instead of ellipsoids on your OEM euro restoration? along with the non cut out euro grills? Just a thought.

Yep, told him that before :) Maybe he'll have his cluster/tach re-done for a 6 cyl engine by that cluster place he mentioned earlier in this thread though....

Andrew - found this the other day http://www.motortopia.com/vehicles/v.../i/triplethree

Actually, the motor is an '86 so i'm pretty sure this is not the case, however I could be wrong. This motor has no Check Engine light either.

Actually it was an option for some early models to have ellipsoids, but they were made by Bosch at this point and not by Hella. However H1/H4's will be the goal, but with integrated city lights.

Thanks for the link Jean, I've learned all about the 333i. I have a folder full of hours worht of research about it. I know the specs I have in this car aren't up to par with the 333i specs yet, but for now I'm just going to get the engine in the car, and then spec it to Alpina settings.
My instrument cluster will be going to North Hollywood Speedometer for an Alpina replica job at some point. The diff I have in my car currently is the factory 318i one, but the donor car comes with a very well running 3.25LSD. That will be switched with the correct LSD at some point also.
