I've noticed my 60D has quite a lot of sensor banding on blacks, Im wondering if cleaning will help it a little, cause that much noise at 1.4/f 1/1600 is kind of ridiculous.Leave a comment:

George, I think a little lower angle for your cookies pic with some background might be good too. I don't know your lenses selection but using a telephoto lens with a wide open aperture would blur the background out would be good too.Leave a comment:

Gonna rent the Sony A7II and 35MM 1.4/f ZA lens for my spring break, hopefully I wont feel the need to suck dick to get it immediately after.

No EF-s will fit crop sensor cameras only, which your new t3i is...... but yes the focal length is still listed as it would be for a ff. And for canon aspc you multiply fl times 1.6.Thanks!
That lense would be for a full frame right? So on a APS-C sensor it would be more like a 20mm-40mm?
I have my eye on a Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX II AF 11-16mm f/2.8 Mark II. That's built for the smaller sensor, so it's a true 11mm at the low end. And f/2.8 aint bad.
About $250-$300 used on keh, ebay, CL. I checked the reviews, and it's not to bad.Leave a comment:

I've been looking for this wreck for about 10 years. Finally found it yesterday afternoon.

Yeah but it works on either of course. I just like its range because it can get nice wide shots without distorting. I use it on my 60D and get some pretty wide shots. Guess it depends how wide you think you need, comparing to a true wide angle for crop sensor. Thanks!

For a wide angle id suggest the Canon 10-22mm:
https://www.amazon.com/Canon-EF-S-10...70_&dpSrc=srch
If its just for photos or if you are planning on doing IS in post, not taking video with it, etc. It is very good about not distorting the whole picture, even at wide open. I love mine. The barrel distortion is almost unnoticeable, honestly almost less vignette then my 50mm 1.4/f too.
If you want to make it a bit easier to do video handheld you could assemble a camera cage setup for it, usually not too expensive and you can find a handle you like.Leave a comment:

So....got bit by the dslr bug recently. I put it off forever.
I use to be a pro video guy, so the whole digital SLR was off putting to me. A DSLR is the wrong form factor, no smooth zoom servo ENG lenses, no mounts for lights, shotgun, or battery pack ... and can't carry it balanced on your shoulder for hours. My go to camera was a Sony DSR-500/300. You can rock that camera for hours on end.

So I purposely picked up a older Canon t3i, non-full frame, and loaded up magic lantern on it for video. It came with the two kit lenses, flexible, but not that interesting. So got a nifty 50, and looking to get a 11-18mm ultra wide angle.
Add/adapting that to some audio gear that I have, and re buying some lighting that is now 1/10th the price thanks to china, looks like a good time.
Guess I'll have to get a cage to to attach everything, but so far, it's fun to shoot raw, and it's almost a crutch to use that level of flexibility.
A video shoot that is impressive for the lack of a $2k camera, and just a tripod, two lenses and a slider:

The first pic is actually a crop of the last pic, but reworked as black and white. The rest were shot hand held with my 500mm lens. The last one is one I shot as I walked out my door on my way to work, saw the eclipse was still happening, saw the fog in the valley and ran back inside grabbed the camera and shot it. I knew there was a high probability of it being badass, but didn't know till I got home from work and processed the pic.
