2. 95% of the population that consumes meat on a daily basis does not do so on a "balanced diet" if anything they consume mostly animal product and think that the lettuce and tomato on their burger constitutes a serving of vegetables.
3. I'll put my cholesterol numbers up against a daily meat eater any day of the week.
Vegetarians suffer fewer heart attacks than meat eaters. Interestingly, this benefit dissipates as vegetarians age. One study showed that vegetarians under the age of 65 were 45% less like to suffer a heart attack than were meat eaters. Once vegetarians reached the age of 80, however, their heart attack risk was only 8% lower than that of meat eaters.
Two studies of people who consumed very little meat showed an average life-span increase of 3.6 years.
A huge study of Seventh Day Adventists who ate little or no meat showed longevity increases of 7.28 years in men and 4.42 years in women. These data are confounded by the fact that Seventh Day Adventists follow healthy lifestyles free of tobacco and alcohol.
Studies suggest that the longevity benefits conferred by a vegetarian diet dissipate as humans enter their ninth decade. This implies that while vegetarian diets reduce disease risk, restricting one’s diet to only plant foods does not completely protect against the effects of aging.
The same report showed that societies with plant-based diets are more likely to live past 70 years of age.
And there's a bajillion articles posted that provide solid proof that people who consume animal products (mainly meat & dairy) with every meal have a higher rates of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Posting your own opinion all day doesn't mean jack shit if you can't take the time to find resources to back it up. All you're doing is continuing to spread misinformation.Last edited by RobertK; 05-07-2012, 07:47 PM.Comment

The problem is that most people {in the US} who include meat in their diet believe that a balanced diet must include a large portion of meat with every meal. If it were largely based on genetics then obese people would have existed in large quantities 100 years ago. Genetics is largely a cop out for people who want an excuse for their poor eating habits. The Biggest Loser pretty much proves that.
Also the misconception of a "vegan diet with added protein" is that EVERYTHING you eat animal based or vegetable has protein in it. There is a general misconception that meat is the only good source of protein which is a crock of shit pandered to the general public long ago by the farming industry via USDA. No different that the bullshit milk ads.
Matter of fact the notion that protein is so important you must ingest large quantities is ignorant considering that protein deficiency doesn't even exist in 3rd world countries much less here in the states.

For the sake of this convo, I'm willing to post my numbers up whenever I finally get them checked and compare them to yours? I've only been doing this keto lifestyle since early February however, so my results may not be as thorough as yours may be since I believe you've been following your life style for a much longer time. I eat meat and cheese pretty much everyday so it may be something of interest.Last edited by drumad; 05-08-2012, 04:08 AM.2008 335i - n54b30

I think this was tackled in the link I posted earlier but that is not true. Human's were never a carnivorous animal and the incisors we have are former remnants of the ones we developed originally for defense. There are many natural herbivores that have incisors bigger than ours.
Furthermore we have COLOR vision whereas many carnivores are colorblind. This is to help us identify fruits and vegetables in the wild (for flavor and nutrients). The colors not only help find them but also to attract us to them. In the wild it was beneficial for the plant to attract animals to eat the fruits and veggies because most animals cannot digest the see thus once digested our poo would help spread the seeds.Im now E30less.

color blind doesn't mean you see in black and white. it means you have a harder time distinguishing between different colors - i.e. red and green look the same.
also, if us being able to see "full" color is evidence of being plant eaters - uhm, lots of plant eating animals are color blind, and animals with much better vision (lions, tigers, etc) eat meat. that's a pretty flimsy correlation.
that, and men definitely evolved to hunt - stamina, reflexes, strength, etc. you don't need that to gather berries and roots.Comment

So much misinformation in here. Of course if I try to participate I get screamed at for the sins of every carnivore around me, so that ain't happening again.
Go read "The Zone" by Barry Sears.
BTW I spent the last week as a vegetarian, just to see how it was. Because I'm so fucking closed minded, amIrite?Last edited by priapism; 05-08-2012, 08:04 AM.sigpic

Just to be clear, I'm not attacking you or anything, ok? I'm curious myself and it can probably add to this conversation.

1. If you're going to make such claims at least present something to back them up.
2. 95% of the population that consumes meat on a daily basis does not do so on a "balanced diet" if anything they consume mostly animal product and think that the lettuce and tomato on their burger constitutes a serving of vegetables.
3. I'll put my cholesterol numbers up against a daily meat eater any day of the week.

So you're twisting what I said to fit your argument. That's pretty typical.
Do you know what a balanced diet is?
It doesn't mean you eat meat every fucking meal for Christ's sake.
Treatment for anemia varies depending on the type of anemia. This lists treatments for aplastic anemia, sickle cell anemia, iron deficiency anemia, anemia of chronic disease, and pernicious anemia.
A balanced diet...
You can be unhealthy as a vegan if you're not eating right just like the guy that pigs out on meat all weak and eats no greens will typically be unhealthy. Being a vegan does not equal health.
And your comments regarding protein...
