As for it being a money thing, food is one thing I don't think should be skimped on. I like to eat good food, so I'm laughing at your justification of cutting great food out of your diet for what shouldn't make or break you financially.

Lol this thread is funny. I used to be a vegan hater. (Shit vegans say, youtube its worth it) but then my girlfriend went vegan and I was pissed. Now 6 months later I'm glad I feel so much more healthy eating the food she cooks. I still sometimes induldge in meat but not often. Vegan done right = good. When she told me its just like lowering your car, there's a right way and a wrong way to do it I was sold!

Meh, I am a believer in everything in moderation. I won't shy away from vegetarian or vegan food, but I typically do eat a fair amount of meat. I found that making sure my diet is well balanced helps more than anything, along with not overeating. In a way, I was raised to pretty much eat everything on my plate. I later realized that was too much, so now I eat a wider variety of food and typically less of it. Also, drinking water instead of soda and cutting back on sweets was a massive energy boost for me. That said, I don't think I could ever cut out meat completely. I enjoy it too much, and don't really see anything wrong with it.
And if you need to clean out your digestive tract, eat some super spicy Thai food. I shit you not, it will cleanse your innards like you'd never believe.

It's not just the price, it's the entire list in the first post.
read it again guys.
And yes, i dont' totally disagree with meat, it's just another way of approaching a diet and supplementing different foods to make it healthier. but when you consider most of the ppl. on this board consume McD's and Wendy's on a regular basis and are under the age of 25...If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

Any drastic change in your diet will give you issues though. It is your choice to eat what you want, but I think you are better off with a balanced health diet of fresh foods (including a variety of meats that are not processed) along with excercise including cardio.
Cutting out fast and highly processed foods is a huge jump forward. I never have any of the issues you speak of and eat red meat for atleast one meal every day. I also eat fish and chicken several times a week along with plenty of fresh vegies.

A day's worth of meals for a vegetarian, pescetarian, vegan, and a meat eater: tallied and compared, by price.
on average, eating a vegan diet is cheaper, unless you're going for the prepared meals, and I mean, they're the same price as the non-vegan prepared meals except there aren't as many ridiculously terrible and synthetic options as the omnivores get.
I know this for a fact, being a cook and a vegan, and running a recipe and cooking website, that I cut my food bill in half. Coming home from the supermarket with a large box full of groceries for $40 (even with expensive indulgences) is fantastic.Last edited by squidmaster; 05-01-2012, 09:42 PM.
