Any Vegans on the board?

    Do you think you could get that kind of protein on a vegan diet?

      For a body builder? Probably not.

      For the average American, it's more than easy enough to get the recommended level of protein.

          I am far from the "average" american body builder. I am 150 lbs, 5'7.5" and have a 28 waist. Even when I tried to increase my protein intake to 2 grams per pound, I only went down in weight to 147 and didn't increase in size at all.

            I've never understood the whole vegan thing unless you're allergic to something. It's a fad as far as I'm concerned.
            Cutting out certain things I can understand but going vegan just to go vegan, whatever. All aboard the the Steve Irwin....

                My non weight gainer whey protein is 52 grams per 2 scoop serving, for example.

                  A fad that's been practiced for a few thousand years. Right.

                  It's such a fad that the majority of indians are vegetarian (something over 60% of the country).

                  I just love how the only people offering information, sources, or facts are the vegans or vegan supporters here....

                    what guideline are you going by with 23g protein/day? just curious

                    guideline stated in my nutrition book sayeth 0.66g/kg bodyweight. are you a chinese trapese artist? 77 lbs is pretty small for a rough tough huge dude.

                    I don't doubt that you feel better/more energetic each day. I haven't ever gone full vegan so I can't fairly comment against it. I have done ovo/vegetarian for a bit and it felt fine but I can't help but think it's a placebo effect in that regard.

                    Again, I wasn't saying that you couldn't build/maintain muscle mass as a vege/vegan but one critical thing exists in meat that does not in veggies...natural creatine.

                    NOTE: i'm not advocating creatine powder supplementation. That shit may work for some people but i'm just not a fan of the idea. I'm an all natural kind of guy.

                    Creatine is critical to producing immense amounts of energy (ATP) very quickly which allows your muscles to contract forcefully and powerfully

                    EDIT: for the record, I'm 5'6. When I used whey protein powder (age 16) I would pop two heaping scoops into 16oz of water hitting me with roughly 60g of protein. this was once in the morning, once after my workout. did 6 days/week strength training, running/throwing around a lacrosse ball on Sunday - for one month straight. I also ate military academy-grade cafeteria food with, you betcha! plenty of chicken, beef, fish, tons of carbs. I only got up to about 150lb at 8-12% body fat. I stayed in great shape playing Lacrosse and Ultimate for the rest of highschool, probably about 5-7 hours per week all school year long, not really lifting much more...lots of plyometrics n such.

                    Freshman year of college I was working out a lot still but more like 6-12 hours of Ultimate(frisbee) practice/tournaments, 1 hour straight treadmill/bike, 3 hours of heavy lifting, and 3 hours of stretching/bodyweight/core exercises each week. Didn't supplement with whey protein at all but i used to spend a LOT of time in the dining hall eating eating eating. I got up to 170lbs <7% bodyfat in my prime. Gained more than I ever did using whey. Of course, this could be largely due to hormonal changes/finishing out puberty, dunno really. Alas, this was also during a wonderful time when I had 21 prepaid meals per week

                          My wife is almost a vegetarian. Because she doesn't like meat very much. Not for "health reasons". Those who go on those diets who think it's healthier are kidding themselves. Or the information they are reading is slanted.
                          So yes it's a fucking fad because it's not cultural. If they are doing it because of they culture that's entirely different but still pointless nutritionally.

                                As far as the hunter thing, I posted a link about it in a past post or something. I mean, humans weren't huge, predators with claws or a means of attack until the development of tools, which wasn't a long period between tools and stagnant agriculture. Humans are believed to have been scavengers and, much the same as many primates today, quite fine at getting fruits and veggies to eat.

                                Like, it's not as if I'm refuting that eating meat in moderation is unhealthy, but you have to be worried about the quality of meat and what the cow was injected with and force-fed, than with GMO dangers. Meat farming is also a terribly destructive empire and sludge fest of pollution, extortion, and over-farming.

                                It's just, like when people make accusations about how incredibly unhealthy it is to eat this way, and then shame you for the choice, you know, you get defensive a bit.
