How many successful types sleep a "normal" pattern?

We've looked at the sleeping patterns of highly creative and intelligent people before, so let's dip our toe back in the water: British bedding and furniture retailer Big Brand Beds has put together a neat-o infographic detailing how people like…

Despite what science says about how crucial a good night's sleep is to your health and longevity, one thing's clear from the infographic below - some of history's most powerful and intelligent people had very little time for it.

            I generally do 2-4hr naps 1-3x a day.

In a small study, losing just one night of sleep led to an increase in beta-amyloid, a protein in the brain associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Silly you bring up Alzheimer. I drive my wife crazy with the sleep habits, and acute memory.

                  To add...

The researchers scanned participants’ brains after getting a full night’s rest and after a night of sleep deprivation (about 31 hours without sleep).

“Even though our sample was small, this study demonstrated the negative effect of sleep deprivation on beta-amyloid burden in the human brain,” Shokri-Kojori says. “Future studies are needed to assess the generalizability to a larger and more diverse population.”

I don't go much more than 12hr without sleep. Just sleep short and to the point. 2-4hr nap a couple times a day does me much better than 8hr+ of straight sleep. I feel lazy and tired if it's too long.

Before I got my CPAP, I would need 10hrs of sleep to feel "rested". Now, I'm at about 8 1/2hrs for me to feel "rested". Even then it's hard to get out of bed.

These people that say they only sleep 6hrs a night...amaze me

The days of sleeping through the night are gone for me. I usually do 3-4 hours, wake up then another 2 or 3. If I get 8 straight through I'm a fucking machine for the next 18 hours.

My wife likes to sleep that long, it typically gives me a few hours of car playing time before she wakes up.

Yup - same here. She's out cold by 11pm and will easily sleep til 9 or so on a Saturday. I'm up at 6am doing whatever needs done around the house, my car, etc.
