Would not say I love ours, but it is a decent car so far. 2015 Sub XV Crosstrek with 6 speed CVT which helps break up monotony of an automatic with 130 hp.
But on plus side it gets 35 mpg which was down from our Honda Fit Sport manual but has awd and ground clearance for the back roads that don't get plowed right away. Rural Mass they only do primary first.Comment

I'm a huge Subaru fan, specifically late 80's to early 00's rallying.
It's a MY05? Very clean, but obviously not "stock" if it's been modded haha. I had a MY04 STi at 303/343 on stock turbo with DP/Exhaust. The rest was suspension mods as it was a rally-X car back when I was a sponsored driver.
I currently DD a '13 WRX hatch that does well enough, but really missing that 6th gear on highway trips. Even so, with extensive eco tuning, I've been getting a combined 28MPG, with HW trips at 31-35MPG (driving 60-65mph). The last gen Legacys (10-14, I had two) with CVT got 40+ MPG on HW trips (driving ~70 and 31-33 combined).
On these cars, the ringlands and bearings will give out LONG before a HG blows-- if it's being pushed by pressure. Age-wise, yea, HG at 100 or 120k and you'll be fine.Comment

I always liked those bug-eye Imprezzas. Not so much the pig-nose one before(?) this. Just be careful to not suck in small children and dogs in that scoop.
And next to a real Audi quattro, a Soob is the best snow / ice car I've driven. They're pretty similar day to day really (in snow).
My son's GF has a Crosstrek like the poster above. They take it everywhere. They often leave the 14mpg Land Rover at home and use the Soob for woods, camping, fishing, bird hunting trips. It doesn't have low range so it's not doing any real crawling, but who really does that just to get places?Comment

Crosstrek got 31 MPG with 4 people in it and our roof rack with a yakima storage box with AC going at 70mph granted it was up the coast line so no real elevation changes but had to deal with BS of summer beach traffic. For a budget mobile it's not bad, we did drive a 5 speed manual and it was too crude to be worth it.Comment

Had a buddy a few years back who had an early 2000's Impreza RS. I'm not crazy about Soobie's liek some people but one winter he let me take it for a rip along some ice and snow covered roads.
Gotta admit, with snow tires this thing was unstoppable! I'd never had that amount of control with a FWD/ RWD car....ever!
Amazing car to drive, but I'm a cheapo so I'd never own oneIf it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!Comment

That WRX looks pretty sweet, but I'm still not sold on the reasoning for selling the e30.My Garage

I'd get a Scooby, but everybody and their brother has one out here in CO. They're legitimately a dime a dozen, and most of them are ravaged beyond belief. The worst part is, there's an annoying "Subaru" tax here, so even a beat up Legacy base model from the early '00s will cost you 4-5k.
I still want a 2.5 RS in good shape though.

This was my experience. I bought a '16 manual for a work car and sold it 6 months later.
Utterly boring.

Subaru "tax" in CO? You're joking? They're thousands less, even half price of what they were in FL. Specifically because they are so common. It's funny, in FL you almost never saw another STi or WRX. Rarely. People called them "unicorns". Here, my trips between Denver and Springs, there's usually two or three in a row, and a couple groups.I'd get a Scooby, but everybody and their brother has one out here in CO. To be fair, most cars are ravaged here. Hail, bad road conditions, no road conditions....Comment
