Is it possible that this would cause a rattle going over bumps?

At first I thought it was suspension related, but I went through the suspension and everything is tight. Checked steering rack and column, transmission bolts, Subframe, engine mounts, transmission mounts. Any thoughts or ideas?? I am going to have the car in my garage for the weekend checking over everything again. I was hoping to not have to drop the driveshaft out again..
what do you mean by guide bearing/centering sleeve? do you mean the rubber isolator+bracket that the CSB is inside of, and which mounts the assembly to the car? How bad is it worn? That typically causes knocking/thumping under acceleration, but could also be bouncing around going over a bump. Did you notice any marks on the DS or tunnel around it that would be evidence of that?

Did you check your exhaust mounting points and heat shields?

Oh it's not a GC part I'm waiting for, they delivered a couple weeks ago. It's the posi-lock kit for the rear subframe. It's on backorder due to a bad batch.

Yes that will cause a noise/vibration as you increase your speed/as you accelerate/decelerate. It is called the center support bearing (CSB). You must also preload it when it's reinstalled, by slightly pushing it forward (I think).

There is a bearing on the the tip of the driveshaft that goes on to a shaft coming out of the transmission and inside the driveshaft itself... Center support bearing is brand new no knocking or bumping from that. The sound seems to be coming from the bell housing area. I'm going to just have to go over everything again this weekend.. it's weird because I can feel it knocking when my foot is resting on the gas pedal.

Hi guys. Will get into details later but my beloved '91 318i with so many cherished memories was destroyed this week while saving my life.

Please let me know if any of you guys happen upon a clean 1991 318i in Diamantschwarz.

I think I've seen two now, one in Santa Rosa (with vague ad), and one in Chula Vista/San Diego (also relatively vague ad).

                Many thanks,
                Sina

Sina jan, I hope you only have pain in the heart. Such a shame that its gone now, so many memories with that car. Its one of the main reasons why I dont want to daily drive my E30 anymore. The current daily is easily replaceable, while the E30 isnt. Good luck in your search, I will keep my eye open

Thank you everyone. Without all of you guys in the wonderful scene which we have, there wouldn't be many memories attached to the car. While it's been a very emotionally tough week, I'm staring to begin to get over the loss. Regardless, i intend on picking up where I left off with the next one, and make it even better than the last.

As for me, feeling a lot "less concussed". Most of the pain is in my lower back, and I think I have a pinched nerve which is making walking tough now and again.

I have a trip booked to Munich, Austrian alps, Swiss alps, German alps, Düsseldorf, and the Nurburgring for the end of this month and I fully intend on recovering enough to make that, and at least pay homage to the Regensburg factory.

So thankful that many of you all got to see my baby in all of her glory, and hope you are all around to see her spiritual successor.

Damn, that sucks. Very sorry to hear about the car. I know the feeling. I lost my first E30 6 months after getting back from paint. This is back in 98-99 and because of that I got my M3 right around the time they had bottomed out, so get ready to come back bigger and better.
