They're expensive as hell. I paid $90 for mine and they gave me this stumpy valet key. That said, after I rebuilt my locks, the original key wouldn't open the doors anymore. I use it as the master, and had copies made of it onto genuine keys... locksmith didn't give me any trouble, just wouldn't guarantee it.

You paid too much, I paid ~$50 for mine, they gave me the stumpy key, I bitched and they ordered another key which ended up being the wrong one again, but not the stumpy (thats the wallet key btw). Neither worked in any locks on my car so I am going to wait and order a few more things so that I have one key to work on everything

Ugh the people at the calabasas dealership were a bunch of SOBs. I spent an hour confirming pictures and PNs that I was getting a lighted key and then when I picked it up they told me those are NLA... but charged me for it. I was in a bind because I didn't have a working key to lock the car so I sucked it up. Im still sour about that baloney. Never going back there.

You need to rebuild your locks and then it'll work again.

The keys are totally different on mine, I haven't been able to find the whole history on my car, but I think it was a parted out shell in Oregon (circa early 2000s) before someone put it back together with the M20 in it, 2 previous owners before me.

I got a new key for mine from Century West BMW. *(North Hollywood)

                    they offer great parts service.
                    No complaints, whatsoever.

The only way to determine the condition of a used G260 is to install it and drive it right?

You try and row through the gears before you put it in just to make sure they work.

Seemed easier at the time to get the cheap one cut

Another issue is them cutting your new key based on the old worn key. No bueno.

That's true, though my old key isn't worn out because I just started using it a few months ago after my other one broke in half
