All the rear subframe reinforcements and poly bushings have been ordered. Got all the front stuff and shifter stuff yesterday. Time to get things welded in place and off to the powdercoater 😊

It's actually not that difficult.

Though the common thought is this is only a repair you should do if you really have to, but BMW actually made it fairly easy. When done correctly, it's just a lot of spot welds being drilled out, and then once you do that, the panel is easily swapped out.

Probably the hardest part is the two seams that are brazed from the factory (in the trunk gutter and the top of the C pillar.

But, I took a bit of a shortcut because this is just the race car, and did two lap welds down the side. Did the same thing on the opposite side when I replaced that corner last year. It's easy enough to blend and look convincing, but a street car or someone else car I would have done the full panel replacement and drilled the spot welds on the B/C pillar and lower rocker panel.

Yep, some of the photos (like the one with the M1) are from the first picnic in 2002. Luckily Lance kept a catalog of details from old picnics. Last year was my first year attending.



I think shadowline is just a term to describe black window trim instead of chrome. The SA version is the 320is ;) Best of luck, would be awesome if you can get it in without too much trouble!

Actually the 325iS is the SA version of the M3. They are however hard to come by because most guys sell standard coupe's with an Mtech kit on it and an 325iS badge. Also you're correct the shadowline is merely just a black trim but for some reason models that are being sold with 'shadowline' in their description will cost you an arm and leg in my country.

Seth, are those just resonators or mufflers on your old setup? Which brand?

At the front of the exhaust your seeing cats, it's hard to see in the picture but there is 12" resonators at the rear. It's stupid loud and sounds horrible. I got my mufflers today we will see how much better it gets soon.

I feel your pain! Mine is also a nightmare. That's next on my list, what muffler did you end up going with?
