I don't think anyone even shared an opinion - they just told you that it's illegal. If you want a pat on the back every time you come up with an illegal (or otherwise stupid) idea go to e30tech. Until then, don't cry when people try to convince you not to break the law.

The nice thing to do would be to direct me to a catback thats legal and doesnt cost as much as a BMW OEM...

If you end up using Gerber, you can have the cats from my car if you pay to have them removed and the gap filled. I passed emissions at 1/10 the legal limit for an m42 so I imagine that I don't really need them.

You can always spend <$100 on a magnaflow cat. They're only good for a few years but the price is right.

Seems the preferred exhaust setup for the 24v guys (it will work on m20 too) is 2.5 inch pipe to a resonator or glasspack, then out to the muffler.

Without a cat you will be super raspy, lol
