i wonder if you could use their maf and the new "war" chip together...it says that the war chip is for 95 and older cars, so that means e30s, right?sigpicComment

because they ALL exaggerate gains. Especially that Dinan chip. Why is that so hard to believe? Most aftermarket software manufacturers claim around the same gains - with the AFM intact.
From Pelican:
"I recently go a hold of a Dinan performance chip for my E30. The benefits of this chip include raising the factory rev-limiter to 6900 RPM and increases horsepower from 168 to 183. It does this by essentially re-configuring the fuel injection map to advance the timing, fuel pressure, etc. This translates into a dramatic seat of the pants change in power, or as we refer to it, the butt dyno."

also, a chip cannot adjust fuel pressure, so why would you believe their stated HP claims? ;)Comment

HP claims are what they are (always has been).
I just want to play with it.
I've had a few things rolling around in my head for a while now that this may be part of the solution to.
I talked to them a while back to discuss the possibility of working on a joint project and they blew me off so I just bought one and I'll work it out myself.I'm Not Right in the Head | Random Rants and other Nonsense1st Order Logic Failure: Association fallacy, this type of fallacy can be expressed as (∃x ∈ S : φ(x)) → (∀x ∈ S : φ(x)), meaning "if there exists any x in the set S so that a property φ is true for x, then for all x in S the property φ must be true".Comment

Guess you didn't read Taylor's thread either. The MarkD chip is widely considered the best M20 chip on the market, I believe it made around 1.5HP more peak HP than a stock chip. Why is that so hard to believe? Most aftermarket software manufacturers claim around the same gains - with the AFM intact.

And it's supposed to be better than the TMS chip that claims a +15HP gain. Think about that.
I know in the Jap market stuff, they would sell a header claiming 10+ HP on your engine. But what they wouldn't tell you is that its some monster cammed, high comp N/A beast where the only restriction left is the header. So on THAT motor it would unleash that kind of power, but not on a car with a "stock" engine, ie no cams/pistons/bore:stroke, etc.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

The Japanese have a very funny way of testing and calculating horse power as well.I'm Not Right in the Head | Random Rants and other Nonsense1st Order Logic Failure: Association fallacy, this type of fallacy can be expressed as (∃x ∈ S : φ(x)) → (∀x ∈ S : φ(x)), meaning "if there exists any x in the set S so that a property φ is true for x, then for all x in S the property φ must be true".Comment

also, often those are peak HP gains, but not neccesarily the gain at the HP peak. so it could be +10hp somewhere in the RPM range, but only 2hp at the peak. Then you get into whp vs bhp and the correction factors for different drivetrains which adds a whole new layer of confusion that marketers can use to sell you their product.Comment

Even the OEMs like to shuffle these numbers around.also, often those are peak HP gains, but not neccesarily the gain at the HP peak. so it could be +10hp somewhere in the RPM range, but only 2hp at the peak. The Japanese were famous for it. +1. this is the biggest cheating method. marketing just chooses the one rpm where their product produces the best gain.
this is some people get 100hp out of a few mods: yeah my p-flow adds 32hp, my exhaust adds 23, my headers add 15, my lw pulley 10, etc etc90 E30 325iComment

Is that a type-o? 1.5hp peak gain from stock?
Please explain.
I understand comparing the peak power points from both graphs - but if one has more power for longer leading up to the peak number, does that not = faster car?Comment

Go look for his thread, e30_fiend.
The point is that all these gains are greatly exaggerated.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

or at least, misunderstood. The mark D chip may infact give you a 15hp gain, but it's not neccesarily at the peak, and the actual WHP increase will be less.Comment
