I think the true way to enjoy these cars is in the way they were sold to the public.
Putting cages in, and swapping v8 motors should be done to the non-M cars. By that point your so highly modified, that all you have is a non-M car with wider flares..etc.Originally posted by kingston View PostYou want to cage the non-M cars...instead of the cars that M Division..."M' standing for MOTORSPORT...built.
I'm sorry, but that doesn't compute to me. I think the true way to enjoy M3s is to drive them, maybe not exclusively, but at least partially on the track. I'd kill for an Alpine M3 that was caged & set up for the track
My take - they were purpose-built racecars, and should be driven as such. I agree, they are not done any services by people heavily modifying them for street use, especially yanking the S14. Thats part of what made the E30 M3 the E30 M3. If you want to do crazy things like motor swaps - buy a non-M car. I also have a hard time with the hard parkers complaining about them being raced - thats what they're for! I do think you for preserving the near-stock examples for future generations to see, but don't hate on people wanting to use them for their intended purpose. At the end of the day, they're still simply machines, intended for human consumption.
EDIT: The only swaps I can be down with are REAL Motorsport engine swaps. S54, S38, etc. If somebody happens to find an S44....sweet!!

Cool, bro.
And for the S38, its period correct and a good size group believe that it should have come stock with the S38 myself included. Also I'm not just ditching the S14, I would just prefer it to be safely stored away at home.

Anyway, stupid was the right word.
To be fair though, my view for a modified version of the car is probably stupid to some people also.2011 1M Alpine white/black

So, if I ever own a E30 M3 it will look exactly like this.... with the S14 at home perfectly built on a stand and a N/A S38B38 under the hood. Thats my dream you all can judge it as you see fit. /THREAD :)
How can you hate this!?!?!???
I'd go S54 in mine, if the s14 was DOA or MIA...
Much Butthurt in this thread...
Do what you want, if you need a perfect one, then find one. If you need a racer, those are out there as well!-Christian

The S38 is a big, heavy engine. It's very, very expensive. It does not fit well in e30 engine bays. You're fucking delusional if you think that, if you're ever able to afford an M3 (which you won't), you're just going to swap in a built S38.
You'd get as much if not more enjoyment from keeping the existing S14 (if some dipshit didn't already swap it with a fucking S52) and going the 2.5L route. Balance is maintained, and you get a screaming, high-output 4 banger.
And to all you dreamers who go on about stripping it and turning it into a race car "because that's what it was built for," is your plan to actually race competitively? How? Are you going to quit your job, get sponsors and just live the life as pro M3 driver? Get real. Does a casual track day every month or so require a complete strip down and cage? You're a fucking idiot if you do.

People have preferences and opinions. If someone buys a car, they can do whatever they want to it. Everyone is going to have an opinion. You can give your opinion but at the end of the day, it's their car.Current:

I don't think people hate that car, but moreso who owned it and what it represents."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj
