This happened more times than I can count to my rx8. It was always covered under comprehensive, although I had to pay my deductible, which was $100. I probably spent at least $2000 in deductibles over 7 years, not even joking...

I've been witness to a few and I always get the license plate and leave my number. I don't know how your insurance company is going to verify that without their number. That's too bad. It's a 2 minute phone call. "Did you see x hit y?" yes. "What happened?" they were speeding through the parking lot and swiped the car. "ok thanks." And that's it. Without the witnesses phone number, you're out your deductible. Otherwise the insurance company would go after the other car for it.

Lady just hit my stationary vehicle 3 days ago in a parking lot with that exact description. Couldn't be more true.

If you do go through their insurance, watch it. They (Grange) refused to pay out for anything above economy Keystone body parts, wouldn't pay for any blend refinishes, and turned down an alignment (despite the direct contact with my front right wheel). So I refused to have that shit work done to my vehicle and I still have a broken car.

OP if you can't get them to cooperate, as long as you have comprehensive you'll be covered and it shouldn't raise your rate (doesn't through State Farm anyway).

Good advice. Just found out it is a $100 deductible and no rate hike. woohoo.

Also, if you get on the receiving end of a not-your-fault accident, any half decent insurance company won't raise your rates. I always start a claim with my company once the at-fault driver's insurance contacts me, and when I talk to my agent I give them that insurance co's information.

That way, if you get the run around or someone is giving you shit, it's on your own insurance to fight for you.

That's shitty, and the only solution is to spend more money (lawyer).

Glad to hear you're covered. I remember a story about someone finding a note on their windshield after being hit and run. It said:

"people are watching and think I'm leaving you my phone number. Fact is I'm sorry I hit your car but am uninsured. Good luck"

I've see this type of shit all the time now and not once have I seen the culprit take responsibility. The best is when they drive two spaces over and park... *sarcastic thumbs up*
Even at work. Half the people here are making 6 figures and they can't even leave a fucking note with their co-worker?!? Go fuck yourselves!

I always take the license plate down and leave my contact info with on car.
