Id like to see, or read about some backyard turbo setups. cheaply done and somewhat reliable. if any of you have a forum link or personal builds id love to hear about them.

False alarm. Carry on.
But OP, best bet is to read up on how a turbocharger system functions. They work the same regardless of vehicle, so your best bet is figure out what you need and how it will work. Then, start your project. Take your time and wait for used parts if you want to save money.

There's no real cheap in f/i. You're going to end up spending the money anyways.
That's why you never see these "Boost build! On the cheap!" build threads finished or even hear from them again afterwards..
If you can't afford to do it right in the departments that require things to be done right, just take your time and research a lot vs. blowing stacks to get it all done before the next hawt car meet. You'll enjoy it more.

Mine is as backyard as it gets, used turbos that cost less than a tire, harbor freight welder and fluxcore wire for fabrication, chopped up M50 manifold on an M42. Traps 103 in the 1/4mi poorly launched, it's quick enough for DD use and corners great.

Honestly "backyard" is the only way to do it.
Either you spend a shit ton of money on a big name kit, or you spend a little money on an eBay kit.

There's no real cheap in f/i.
I found that the details could easily set you back nearly as much as the manifold and turbo itself.
But the single most critical element is tuning, and that can be driven by the ECU-
if it's easy to see what the ECU is doing and modify it to be nice to the internals,
then the 'build' has the best chance of success.
Because it's ALWAYS "try something, then fix or improve it" with this sort of thing.

I had a backyard turbo build way back when. Like other's have said before me, research is key. All the info on how to do it is out there, and you can find it if you spend the time looking. There's quite a few threads that have well documented setups as well. Goodluck in your turbo quest!
