There are a lot of fortunate things about this:

-I didn't have my fresh bumpers on the car
      -The foglights were shot anyway
      -It wasn't in the Evo

      I have, however, learned this:

Below freezing temps + sleet + shiesty turn + new chip that threw me into lightspeed + summer tires = bad combination.

I'm just hoping I can find a valance, 'i' fenders, and a radiator in a decent time frame, as there doesn't seem to be much out there.

Ouch, doesn't look like the damage is that extensive. You should still lower it.

That whole lifting thing was a joke :D. Ground Controls are almost ready to go on!

I had all the parts I need lined up at Bimmer Buddies, and Dave ceased communication for some unknown reason, so now I feel it will be another three months before I find a valance, hood, and fenders close by Philly.

SUB'D. great progress here. the front end damage is pretty minimal. decide what you want to run bumper wise before replacing..

in for GCs, de-rusting info. Afraid to check the floorpans on my IX coupe (build/progress thread in sig)..

if your undercarriage has that much rust you should definitely check the fuel and brake hard lines.. my rears were toast.

I'm equally as afraid to lift my carpet. My issue is still finding the freaking parts. I really didn't think it would be this difficult, but it has proven itself otherwise. I actually got my stock bumpers restored, and they look perty good! Now I just need a valance, fenders, and hood that no one seems to have.

The GCs are ready to go on, just waiting for me to bite the bullet on the shortened Konis I have yet to purchase.

Haha thanks man. The Evo has taken over my 'car' time these days, but come Spring I'll get back to it.

I have a spare iX block now, so a 2.8L build will be in progress soon! The plan is to run an M52 crank, ETA rods, and i pistons, while running the R3V crank spacer.

Does anyone know where to get a threaded ring from the stock length iX Koni insert? The shortened 'race' ones do not come with it, and I believe I need that specific threaded ring to mount 'em up.

Ring? You mean the gland nut? I think it might be the same as stock

                          Yep, that's what I meant!

This bit of info from the Shortened Koni Writeup I posted back on p. 4 confused me, so I just wanted to make sure I could re-use the stocker.

"You have to reuse the threaded ring from your ix Koni insert to hold the strut, as the "race" insert does not come with one."

Oh, and they are actually 2.1" shorter, to be exact, I found out!

...now if only someone would buy my 16g and oil feed line so I could pick these struts up and finish the dang thing.

nice - you running regular E30 koni single adjustables in the rear?

at 2.1" I'd need a tiny spacer in the bottom of my strut housings but that's not bad. how much did you pay for the set?

I think one of my custom Bilsteins may be broken. :( they ride like hell anyway - the more I think about it the more I think they got the valving all wrong, and obviously I can't adjust them..

Yep, running the Koni single adjustables in the rear with new upper mounts! I've had the rear coils on for a little while now, and even with just that it helped the car out a great deal. The valving seems to be on point with the 650lbers, as it's not too bouncy, or overly stiff either. Ride is very nice, surprisingly. Thankfully they're not like the 12k/10k valved Ohlins I have on the Evo.

That's rough. Did they valve them properly for the springs you're running when you sent them in to be shortened (assuming no per your response)?

The best I found was $207ea (race fronts, P/N 8610-1436race) with free shipping on Amazon, found here:

They were cheap on eBay a few days ago, and then Summit jacked up the price by $100, so that's no longer a viable option.

I have to drop a bunch of stuff off at JMFab tomorrow, so I'll finally be able to get the ball rolling on the strut housings.

I don't know, supposedly they matched my spring rates, but it feels awful. I mean, it corners like it's on rails, but it oscillates a lot over small bumps and is just really stiff feeling. every little crease or pebble on the road feels like I'm hitting a speed bump at 50mph. it didn't feel like that with Konis and my spring rates are softer now..

thanks for the tip! that's a lot less than I expected.. might have to pull the trigger soon, need to pull apart my LF strut and see what's going on first though.
