That said, of the last 5 cars I've owned and multiple canyon runs Ive down with Sh3rpak!ng this last one we did was the first time he has been shocked to see me keeping up with him.
Thats all I will say. Hopefully I can get it to Buttonwillow as I want to see what it will run there. Im not too interested in Big Willow and those are the only 2 tracks I have times at
Changed the oil at 101k, Ive put ~1500 miles on it. Sending a sample of the oil to Blackstone Labs to get it analyzed and give me a baseline to see how it looks over the next 10k miles at least.

LN Engineering is the shop that has sort of pioneered the IMS Bearing fix and some other issues that these M96 and M97 motors had. They swear by it, the previous owner was using it since the rebuild so I’ll use it for a few changes to see how it is and what the Blackstone Labs analysis says.

Finally had a few minutes last night to sneak into the garage to see if I could discover what gave me the heebeejeebees last weekend on my weekly Malibu canyon run. The car cut out for just a second and my diagnosis on my way home was a loose ground somewhere. So now with the booty off the ground I was poking around looking for something. Factory ground cable was good and tight so the search continued. Eventually I spotted it tucked on the passenger side. No idea what this is a ground for, but there’s (I believe) 3 grounds here. One looks like it had already broken in the past and was butt-clamped together and everything got wrapped in electrical tape. It was quite crusty so this isn’t a new repair.
After unwrapping I found a broken brown wire , and our likely culprit. Not sure what this is a ground for, but it’s there for a reason. It’s also in a horrible spot so the repair won’t be fun. “Luckily” I still have some “fun” work ahead of me in replacing the AOS with the UAOS... might just hand this fun job to someone else and deal with the “fun” bill that awaits me...
In actual fun news, while I was down there I discovered why my exhaust seems to sound quite good. Looks like a gondo hack was done by a previous owner. Might help resale value when I pull these off lol

Cars been parked since I discovered the broken wire, as I knew that was going to be a bad situation waiting to happen if I attempted to drive anywhere. Even though its available online, I enjoy having physical books, so I was happy to buy this at the Werks Reunion... and with my Alfa officially sold and in its new home it was time to get to work
Didnt need to, but I took the duckbill off just to get some more lighting. Got a good start and stopped at Step 11 when the book said "This is where the job gets serious" or something to that effect...
I registered to take the car to the Porsche Experience LA where I can drive this on their track. Really excited for that, hoping to get some good instruction from their drivers. After that its time to hit the other tracks. Goal is to finally drive Laguna Seca next year.

I got 5 of the 6 intake manifold bolts out, along with a whole host of other things in the way. Need to get a stubby 3/8" drive, only have a 1/4" and that isnt going to cut it. The 99 has hex head and I definitely do not want to strip anything. So it waits.. until next weekend.
Meanwhile, I figured since I had the duckbill off and a few minutes I could answer another question I have had on my mind.
Stock Decklid
Duckbill
I'm calling it a 15# savings because of the fan, which brings my estimated weight reduction down to 95# (15#-duckbill, 60#- Recaros, 20#-Rear Seat Delete). I still have a few more things planned, but I think I'm going to fall a little short of my goal of 150# of easy weight loss. Maybe I should lose another 15# myself LOL

Finally had time and went out and got the stubby (actually bought a set of them from HF... $10 lol)
Going in blind, but I've had to do this once or twice before
Close-up
And the trash that came out... a few coolant lines and a toasted AOS
Coolant lines capped.
Just need to reinstall now... one of these days! Wife is taking the kiddo for the day this Saturday so I hope to have most of this wrapped up. Fingers crossed because after this the next few weekends are booked with out of town events. I still have the ground-wire repair left as well so I have to make the most of this Saturday
