Cayman > 911. Personally, I think a 987.1 despite the lower power, lack of a 6th gear, and no LSD would be the way to go for a street car. Maybe it's just that they're the cheapest ones.

A Cayman S has the 6th gear and generally I agree, but if I was getting a mid-engine car I was going for an Elise or maybe another shot at a MR2.

Main reason for the 911 > Cayman for me was the small-human sized back seat. Mine gets used a lot. My kiddo has been in the 911 more than the wife.

I do get that the S has a 6th gear, but when I last looked hard at a comparison (before prices went mad) the base model made more sense overall. A 5k discount, better MPG, still enough power, and to be fair, people who buy a Cayman used likely want the dynamics, rather than the additional power, rendering the S rather less sensible. There's also the lower running costs over time, but it's all ultimately the same, and as ever, just buy the best deal relative to condition that pops up.

Yes, I did mention MPG when talking P cars, take that rennlist.

Sorry, I owe you guys an update. Got the car back before Thanksgiving have put a few hundred miles on it since then. Took it up to this past Friday’s Good Vibes Breakfast Club, but forgot to take a pic amongst all the others, so I stopped and snapped this pic on the way down.



on the way up I ended up leading a group of water cooled Porsche’s up to Newcombs Ranch, and the little 996 more than held its own against the portly 991s that were chasing. Wish I figured out who the guy was behind me as he had a forward facing go-pro but when we arrived his car became one of many black 991s so I couldn’t figure who it was... oh well.

Fi ally, got my first official for real for real track day next weekend at Streets of Willow! How much oil do I need to take with me 😂

Quite a day yesterday, started very early and made it to the local Rosamond Chevron to fill up the tank at 7am. At 25* it was quite a bit colder than the LA I left. Cold track to say the least...


saw this Elise at the gas station too, but he was heading to Big Willow so wouldn’t be on the track with us


Ready to go! This event at the Streets of Willow was put on by JMP Auto, a primarily BMW shop. Needless to say, lots of bmws were around but there was a nice collection of other cars.


The JDM cars were special, one a home built 4AGE AE86 and a Renner built (another shop in LA, primarily Subies, located right across the street from the PEC-LA)

The first 2 morning sessions were slow and steady as I looked to find the best line, but I was all smiles.

Best time was a 1:35 according to the one session that I was actually tracking my times haha There’s a lot more left in it. Im working on a video with the go-pro footage and hope to have that ready soon. Stay tuned !

I have a few more things to install, but inside needs a steering wheel that I know what I want... and maybe a new center console in addition to a sexier horseshoe. Too much brittle plastic, the last few times I’ve had to deal with the interior pieces something has chipped and broken.

Depending on body color, I like matched center consoles, but ideally I would prefer to delete a useless one completely LOL

Long overdue detail happening by my friend Don of @domsgarage_ (Instagram) . It’s getting a full detail with a Ceramic coating to top it off. I finished removing the Porsche side stripes and plan to install a set of Carrera stripes from RennDecals. The look should be great for 2024, I can’t wait.

I'd like to toss up an appreciation post for Simon.
I'll be frank and say I haven't been happy with my life for the most part, but I will count my blessings in that it hasn't been that bad. Anyway Simon has really helped out.
He has seen potential in me and found ways to invest in me. He's given me a few jobs to do, and really shined when I needed a huge favor. A couple years ago, I needed to borrow a car, so he lent me his Alfa in exchange for body work to be done. When that debt was paid, he paid me just to continue working on it, on my own time too. He even helped get me some referrals.

Recently, he had another project for me. For his lightweight Porsche project, he wanted to pull some weight out of the tail of the car and liven up the sound.. but not too much, not straight piped. He learned of a solution to install a tiny muffler in some muffler delete pipes. And he knew a guy who could do it... but what's funny is he didn't just have anyone cut off some tubes and weld new ones on. He approached me with the idea of duplicating them.
I didn't have the equipment to do that. I did at my work, but.. wasn't going to do this there. So he helped me get the ball rolling to drop a decent chunk of money (for me anyway) to gather supplies, so that I could fixture these pipes to make more. He didn't rush it, which I greatly appreciate. It took months to get things together, and months to put some time aside, nights and weekends, to even build the new fixture table he helped me buy. I even went out on a limb getting some new tools I've seen but never used. I stayed late at work to create the plates I'd be using to build on top of. I worked nights, freezing my hands off in my patio, hoping I don't piss off the neighbors with grinding. But I also remember by neighbors suck and play loud rap or mexican music sometimes, so whatever.

Eventually, I had this.











It's a huge relief to have this off my shoulders, and to move on to more things. This equipment acquisition wouldn't have been possible without him, or at least nowhere near as soon. Thanks, buddy. Hope to hear these pipes soon! (fingers crossed hope they fit lol)

I'm sure you've made Simon's life way easier, so I'm willing to bet that he is absolutely thrilled to have a fabricator he can count on! Some degree of happiness is a real bonus both ways.
