I looked at the hosts/crew and thought Damn this kids look real young. And I think that's a key element that the last set of hosts had.. they had more life experience, and it showed.

I overheard the intro to the video, the girl was saying "if you're free on a Friday morning..." and that opening line has been lingering with me all day. I've known about the GVBC for years and years but never went because I had a job... like a normal person, 9-5. And I worked nights to bring in more. Now, for the first time in my life, I'm handling business on my own and at my own schedule, I finally got to go up there.
So what she said kind of pissed me off. Like the appeal of this drive on this day is that most people are working, so it's less crowded than the weekend. And the more affluent members of society can afford to go up. So I don't want to hear this young girl telling the young generation "hey, despite the increasing difficulty of being able to survive in this economy, especially for young people like this audience is, you might want to consider driving up here and see what rich people do." No ma'am, most of your audience isn't free on a Friday morning.

And on top of that, they came late. I saw quite a few cars leave by the time they got up to Newcombs. I'm usually late to everything and not a morning person, so seeing people (whose goal was to capture the essence of the event) arrive after me really threw me for a loop. You kids missed it. Omg. /rant
I should visit California when the gas prices aren't trying to compete for Gamestop's stock market price during covid! Sounds like a blast but yeah I'm right around their age and yet I feel so disconnected from modern social media execpt for Tiktok, You know it feels like when Top Gear lost it's original trinity and now nobody wants to bother with the new seasons? Yeah it feels like that with the new hosts on Donut and how Alex + Ethan left Carthrottle to pursue their own channels, Anyways i know how it feels to not be able to find the time to do anything these days. (PS, Someone bring Simon a hood strut!)

I need to figure out how to get my hood to go forward when i pull the latch again.

Sounds like a ban-worthy offense if I've ever heard one.

OBC should just require the green connector. I have had some OBC where the keypads are dead. I have a spare one if you would be interested.

and my favorite car from today

Came home and wanted to get the progress moving on the headunit so I have some toooonz on the long drive to and from Buttonwillow in 2 weeks. The speaker wiring is a mystery, most likely because this car likely had a long since remove premium amp. I ended up just running new wires to get going. Ran out of time but was able to get the headunit powered but still need to finish running speaker wire
    ]

Curious if anyone knows where this yellow connector goes? The OBC has power but doesn’t allow me to really do anything. Can’t set time, can’t check anything. One of the million little projects this car has.

i have a feeling it connects here, but not sure…any help is appreciated

Donut hasn't been the same without James Or Zack, Without rambling about the current state of automotive channels, I believe if the wiring harness for the OG headunit is still there, The electrical manual will tell us the mystery wire's origin! Someday I gotta test drive a M20 325ES.

Well, its driving... Heres its ugly side. Please be distracted by the lovely clouds and other BMWs...

Grabbed the car during my lunch break. $80 Lyft (with tip ) and promptly jumped back on the road and drove the ~30 miles back to work sitting in mid-day LA traffic. Was really enjoying myself, love the car...

As for the first impression driving in traffic on a freeway is not a great reflection on how the rack feels. Its quick, thats all I can say. I plan to go on a drive tomorrow, but for some f**kin reason the car is made a terrible metal on metal noise as I pulled into the parking garage. The garage effect made it sound horrific. Feels like something is dragging in the drivetrain, not the motor. Nothing looked out of place on the first glance, and as much as I thought I was done, I have to see WTF is going on. SIGH

Well, I didnt want to go back out as I had already come inside and was comfy, but after waking up at a very boomer 5am I said fuq it and got dressed and wrapped it up. Its sitting outside waiting for the green light from JMP to tow it out there and have them align the car and give it a once over before the upcoming track day. Felt good to see it off the jack-stands and outside. Will give yall an update on that once they are done and Im out and about driving it around, hopefully in the next few days.

One of my other 99-problems is the lack of a headunit in this car. Theres easy solutions, then there's The Tuman Show solutions. Heres the current headunit situation:

That wasnt going to cut it and while I wanted a modified OEM unit, I bought a era-correct and properly functioning Blaupunkt cassette headunit that I had Bluetooth added to it. This headunit came easily from Germany. The harness however has been another can of worms.

Heres my 'wiring diagram' provided via label on the headunit:

My German headunit had this scribbled above the connector

    and this below:

Wanting to do this as properly as possible, I stumbled upon a website called WebSpareParts (link below). They had a lovely harness for a very fair price. Unfortunately they are located in Portugal and our economic policy annoyed them so they wouldnt ship to me... I was able to wait out the TACO and snuck in an order, but then began the month long travel of this little harness from Portugal to Spain to France to the Netherlands finally across the Atlantic making its way all the way to Los Angeles only to get stuck at the Post Office because UPS handed it off the Post Office for final delivery and someone along the way dropped my house number on my street address... Another week of annoying calls to various customer service lines and a rush to the Post Office before it was sent back and I got my package... So happy to see this bag of wires & weird connectors in my possession!

Having already done some homework, I prepped the harness on the headunit and will be installing it once the car is back from JMP.

It will be nice to have a functioning stereo on the long drive up to Buttonwillow, and I can finally bust out the cassettes again... Good times...

ID:	10158474 so I decided this weekend I was going to wrap it up. Went fairly well last night, except for the unplanned sauna. You can kinda see the ventilation on the side of the house in this pic but what you can see is the exit vent for the dryer. I was getting a nice dose of it while trying to get the installation done. Pretty much finished except the tie rod ends didn’t see to want to slide into place. Rack included the inner tie rods, so I bought what I thought was needed, the E36 outers. It all seemed correct but now Im second guessing myself since they didn’t go in. I’ll give it 15 minutes tomorrow during the day… that special trifecta of (1) working from home, (2) not having a kid to watch, and (3) being in that perfect 2-4pm window where the sun is no longer right above the car and is in the shade… Will report back, hopefully with a pic of the car on the ground…
