OCTOBER 2021
Progress?
Just enjoying fall cruising in the E30, Just a few pics. I don't think I did I much. I did gather some front bumper trim pieces. I still have a cruddy camera so wasn't to motivated to take many photos.
Got a few 100 mile weeks on the bike, It was a hard battle to ride to work or drive the E30.
Test drove an I3S Rex.. Didn't have premium sound or enough depreciation... Lust. Rare option to come by to the local dealer... The price wasn't worth the cost, E30 priorities.
Always work
Some cool cars while doing some track support at Summit Point
Wheelin and Dealin - Imagine that tire bill
Gas tank is ready to go back into the 726
Happy potato photo cheers.

November 2021
Progress? Mileage 10157
Back to work work work and sneaking in drives to get away... AND... I have to decided to build a bottom end for this motor... I have cams that are to big for the pistons and they are solid lifter for higher revs... I guess so... S54 in the back room waving at me... hey dummy I'm stock will make the same power as a built S50/2...Ill pretty much end up with a S50 with S54 bolts ons...... HAH
Engine Rebuild Purchases:
Engine chains iwis racing, Guide rails, Tensioners, ARP Main studs, Hack Racing oil pump chain tensioner, Piston squirters.
Also, eyeing the MRT DTM control arms, I really want to pull some caster and get the wheel centered. Take some scrub radius if the space is there.
Id like to keep a mileage update on each monthly update.
Welcome, New phone, New photos.
Late night cruising, I'm in love with how all the back lighting turned out. I could use some amber lighting under the dash though.
A photo of the oil pump tensioner retrofit I decided to go with
Its been about one year since I've been on track, Lusting to go racing again
WORK WORK WORK:
726 is Coming along together, This thing could run before the new year. Highest Priority in the shop right now.
Tubular upper arms, Tank finally ready, Roll over valve in place, Fires suppression, reassembly
Vapor BLAST - Finally a local who can do this service!!!
Oh look, unnecessary weight
To close on, I dedicate this hardware to my buddy Hayes.

December 2021
Progress?
I started disassembly of the interior to send back to nine stitch NYC to get the door cars sorted, Some of the stitching is a bit off and the houndstooth lays crocked ans wrinkled... We talked for a bit and hopefully a solution can be made, I have been patient and where the imperfections lay makes the car feel not as homely as it should, and a bit embarrassing. This is also a good time to start looking for 2 water leaks that are driving me crazy! Oh yea, some DTM replica arms, they don't look to bad and I understand the quirks of roll center hardware. I drove this car pretty much 10K miles this year so I have to have some confidence in part choice.
Engine parts:
WPC treated kolbenschmidt main bearings, Clutch masters fx350 clutch
A much overdue wheel cleaning!
Matador is just a bull in a china shop - A shot I've been wanting to do for a while.
Before coming apart I did check out my Camber gain and front bump steer before changing out parts. I have a lot of clearance to build into my fenders!
And did some weight jacking numbers
MRT Bits, A sign of no return.
Things start coming apart, a few photos before good byes for the off season.
\\
Still trying to sneak those bike rides in
WORK WORK WORK.
726 Has all its fluids but gas, Hopefully it'll run soon!
No more floppy trunk lid!
M20 02 making progress on the back burner. Radiator, fan, and core support together
Happy holidays!
Cheers!

January 2022
To start with, I've always tried to say busy and its paying off? Just surround by business that I depend on that are always letting me down. My 2022 new years resolution is I'm not fooling around with fools. New Networking New faces. Just another push to do better, EVEN less compromises. This is where the E30 always leads me. Happy new years. Never a new start just another tick on the counter. And if you have your high beams on traveling my way, so will I. :)
Progress? Progyes.
Always a busy month when I try and take days off. Same amount of work, less time.
But! I did find a key water leak. NEMESIS!!!
So I got this new phone with a working camera, Lets see what we find
The old water test
Selfy lens - CHECK
Selfy lens find capturing water leak... CHECK!
Really...
I mentioned I'm building a bottom end for this motor right? A fools errand. But all in all this will help the next iteration (S54) be more plug and play... The S54 setting on an engine run stand, I can go touch it... But building a bottom end. Because I have to finish what I stared.
I've looked for a bit for a kit to convert to S54 ITBS, I really like these as the Vac Manifold, booster plumbing, IAC plumbing, fueling has all been done and it works. They don't come out of adjustment. Plenty of air box options. Its a no brainier and so happy that Rabid Racing Development has made a proper kit finally! Well.... we don't know if its proper till its done and works.. .There was some back and forth measuring some S54 E36 in the shop trying to see how much the adapter stacks up in tight packaging in the E30. Not to mention I don't care for the notching the airbox like S54 swapped fellas do. One hot air intake is bad enough, I'm not having six. (BRO TRUMPETS) So this was a GO or NOGO project and in the end I am keeping proper Dual circuit master vacuum assisted brakes. No, not going to run that garbage single circuit master manual brake tucked bullshit. :)
Carry on
Rabid Racing Development S54 Individual Throttle Body Kit - Michon Dini was super helpful, Could use more instruction on setup, but quick to respond. Plus I was willing to give full feedback on fitment.
.
Off with the old - At the point the kit isn't getting installed, Just fitted for GO or NO GO
Finally dug these puppies out of the back that I have been storing for a bit! As soon as you bolt them you get the Major Tingles. I must make these work!
AND THEN... Its like playing operation. BZZZT
BZZZT
BZZZT!!! Oh wait, Pt.1 surgery complete... Questionable success... To early to tell. Patient has slotted over booster 1.5" over and a heated and hacked SMG BOX. Recovery rate is low, Many long operations, but there is light, just not sure which light.
Halftime show presented by Christmas gifts you don't ever send by postal mail by Vink Motorsports - Don't forget the bead, Shorten heater valve tubes for clearance.
Oh its more severe than though, this fire wire is more floppier than expected, but were were able to regain throttle control..
S54 started needed for optimum clearance
If it fits it sits, No BZZT. Will be running MS41 with MAF so yet to figure out the packaging for that.
Super Happy with the clearance! Airbox has not been modified minus tab removal.
I went with 1.5" because I knew it should net enough clearance and lines the clevis into the middle of the brake pedal. The pedal box was cracked like assued so it needed re welded, but now just reworked..
So far we have clearance'd Booster over 1.5", Shortened aluminum heater tubes and hoses, Retrofitted throttle cable to right side of booster, Slave cylinder feed hose will need to go into drive side firewall grommet. And after fitting a Non Smg box I find the next clearance issue to be the starter. S54 start it is. I'm not sure you can move you booster that far over with the fuse box there.. . Next will be to make an ICV bracket, Tabs to S54 fuel feed line to mount to M50 block, clearance the harness for throttle actuation, Rebuild pedal box, Rebuild pedal and linkage.
Next, checking some scrub.
BZZT... Looks like on the passenger side have to rebuild Y pipe...AHHHH. Maybe...
OH yeah, New phone, New photos, The van is great.
TBC.

Daytona 24 2022 E30 spotting edition
Grassroots - If you remember earlier in the thread we did a photo shoot with this car and an E30M at Vir. Our stella spec E30 was the camera car while Tim hung out the back shooting those 2 cars.
And not to clutter up the thread more. Just my top 5 pics.
Sun going down
Sun coming back up
OK.... I lied... 10... And a bonus... I work on cars and to get away I go to do more car things.
Enjoy.
I may skip the work side of things ... E30 focus time again!

Been having this problem, have a few more shots to take on my first roll I put through a nikon f5 I picked up in November/December. Found a local lab that can do mine, but I've got a few friends who recommended reformed film lab out in FL. Haven't shot film since maybe highschool, so I can't wait to see what kind of hot garbage gets developed. I know there are a couple pics of the e30 in the pits at the last 2 track days at least. really sucks about the price hikes on film, I was really surprised when I ordered some portra 400 and got told about about the kodak price hike effective jan. 1, 2022.
A Few rolls of film came back with nothing on then and was super confusing. Found that the film would slip out of the advance side piece, but I had no Idea. All that effort and didn't make it to the film. Now I triple check even if it eats up some film.

An m20 02 is something I've wanted to do forever, in sorted-but-still-hoopty form.
I hope we can connect at an event in Indy this year. The new motor maybe running this March, Hope to have it dyno tuned before end of month!

February 2022
Progress!
Engine parts:
Last of the engine parts are in! I sent my cam trays and ACL rod bearings out to get WPC treated and they are back. CP pistons and SP rods arrived. ATI Damper arrive damaged, sent back out for repair.. Have all new hardware including Piston squirters. Hack racing Oil pump chain tensioner, Vac / cometic MLS
11.5:1 86.5 spec'd for 140MM rods and enough piston relief for option 3 Cat cams with +1 valves
Finished up Idle valve mount
Finished up fuel line mounting
This could work?
Test fitted spare Active Autowerks Swain tech headers
Motors out
I don't need that
Knocked off a few more that were tough to get to with the head on there.
To the machine shop!
Outbound to WPC
I got some FK Rod ends since they were in stock vs the Aurora, A lot cheaper too for fitment work.. AND...
Maybe video will work... has decent bit of play, NIB Day to day, Day to Day... Anyway, show goes on, Use them for mock up, Toss in recycling when done to be something else disposable..
SO, I was hoping these Castor Blocks of strait replica DTM units from Vink would net me enough space so I didn't have to rebuild my Y pipe and move my fuel filter. WRONG!. But wow they are Sexy.
Tight
Now that things are super adjustable, Let see what we can do about 11.75 degrees of castor.
Camber plate max forward
Egh...
Welp boys and girls... There we go. E36 M3 3.2 96+ knuckles with 7.5 deg of caster on an E30... - 3 Deg camber, 12.5 MM spacer removed, added 5mm for tire clearance from Coil adjuster and set Control arms to have same track width. Wheel centered with top 1/3 of fender
Goodies back from WPC
Nothing New Really...
Corner of a few cam trays dinged from packaging... FFFFFFFFFFFFF What are you gunna do? Debur and send.
For our next act we have bent tone ring ATI Damper.
Damaged Good SEND THEM BACK
Next up: Finish pedal box, Reinforce firewall, Plug hole in HVAC area from B+ removal, Reinforce strut tower tops, Add Boss for 3rd hardware point of Castor Blocks, Machine shop photos, assemble. Upgrade oil pump shaft, Check valve lash, Mono wipe if I have time
JB Mid weight flywheel. I love these things. Waiting 4 months, I am the only order.. So lonely, Canceled... FX Racing on the way. Hope a Non bent ATI damper shows up!
Got two people in the works for a carbon hood. Well see....

Why 7.5 degrees? (What even is stock 96+ E36M3 caster? I see some stuff that said 6-7deg but I know you put a lot more thought into this than just "a bit more than stock E36")
I've seen Terry Fair say 7.5 is the upper limit of what they aim for.Last edited by Northern; 03-04-2022, 09:34 AM.Originally posted by priapismMy girl don't know shit, but she bakes a mean cupcake.Originally posted by shamesonUsually it's best not to know how much money you have into your e30

The camber gain of higher caster isn't worth the handling penalty of weight jacking. And when I say higher, I was at 11.75 (96+ knuckles, SRS 5 lug cabs, E30 CA), with wider rubber, lower offset wheels, Big sway bar, and stiff springs the effect of weight jacking grows. Wheel was centered yes, But wheel location doesn't equal alignment. The goal was to get 7-8, but an adjustable range, I went forward with the strut until it hooked like it wouldn't be able to be reinforced properly with the E30 camber plates I was using. The E36 stuff has more Caster Trail, this is why it really isn't plug and play if you want it optimized, and I plan to continue optimize this car in all aspects. An example is where my strut ended up with "stock" E36M caster, so comparatively the hub probably sits 1-2 inches rearward on the E36M knuckle vs the E30. And theoretically I can get more camber gain by moving the strut outward and shim the knuckle (Reducing KPI, Keeping camber), but I don't have tire clearance at the coilover. With the roll center kit was able to remove .5* camber per side which will help braking and tire wear. The goal is for least amount of camber offset with camber gain in compression, like a real racecar. Most contact patch at all times.
While sweeping for caster the last check at 7.5*, the car was a lot more manageable on the scales and wanted to shift less than before at 11.75.
My caster notes:Side Notes TC01 95M 96+M E30 - 20* E30 Mtech - 20* E30M - 20* E30 M3 Evo - 20* Caster 11.75 6.97 7.5 8.5 8.75 9.05 9.25 SAI - KPI 16.3 15-17 14.25 14.75 14.2 14.4
