Pretty solid summary of how we've gotten to where we are in terms of internet car culture, and what attracts views on YT/IG isn't necessarily rooted in reality. That's a lot of how the internet works, though, which is why Scotto's phub analogy works well.

I mean we're all guilty of some of that ourselves... AC delete, shitty shifter (short shifter, bro), heavy wheels because they look shiny, etc.
I've been trying to unfuck my car on and off for years now.Originally posted by priapismMy girl don't know shit, but she bakes a mean cupcake.Originally posted by shamesonUsually it's best not to know how much money you have into your e30

Speak for yourselfI'd say the most "ruined" mod I've done to a street car was the F&$#%! squeaky Condor RTABs in my E30, and that wasn't my fault because I was told they wouldn't squeak. I've helped undo AC deletes that boy racer POs did and talked someone out of an ABS delete not too long ago. Wanted to "clean up the engine bay", yeah a cleaner engine bay is gonna matter when you lock them up in the rain because some human cattle in an SUV pulled out in front of you, threshold braking is fine for living your Räikkönen fantasies at track days but I'll take functioning ABS on the unpredictable crap conditions of the street 10/10 times. Hell I wish I had it on my motorcycle too, but I don't really like new stuff.

I've definitely made cars unpleasant for daily driving by lowing on too-stiff springs and installing solid plastic mounts. Now I just want the car to be responsive but also pleasant to be in.sigpic

I think we all did the dumb cheap shitty mods because they were cool at the time, we didn't have better role models, couldn't afford proper mods, and because we thought the $1500 e30s would go on forever.
Thankfully a lot of us have learned from bad financial decisions, poor ride quality, and bad handling to make better choices and not modify things just for the sake of modification.
The heavy wheel comment hits especially hard since I bought 19" style 351s for my e90 because they look sick (which they do) but I recently went to 17" DForce wheels and shed 80lbs of rotational mass off the car and now get significantly better fuel mileage1989 JDM-Tech 2
