That's entirely dependent on the parents. Just like a pet, you need to socialize to have social skills.

The comment about not doing anything you could realistically fail at? That statement holds no bearing from either angle. What does one do in public school that you could "realistically fail at."? Also, do you think because someone is homeschooled, that they never experience anything outside the home?

If everyone spent a few years in the blue collar industry, it would fix alot of this sensitive self entitled bullshit attitudes.

My coworkers and I talk so much shit every day, but we all have each others backs. There's no room for feelings in my world.

Blue collar work can go both ways. Some guys in the field are total bros, but some chock full of guys who have never read a single book that wasn't assigned to them.

I think what it really is, is in our society there is no "rite of passage" anymore. We are kind of indefinitely suspended in childhood/adolescence, just making bigger and bigger paychecks.

Shit I'd be surprised if some of the people I work/have worked with ever finished a book at all. Doesn't mean they are bad people though.

Everyone has something they are good at. Some people are reliable and will work their asses off with nothing more than a point in the right direction. They aren't concerned with taking the lead or going above and beyond so long as the paycheck keeps coming in. That approach to life is completely fine and compatible with the real world. Not everyone can be a boss or leader, nothing would ever get done.

Shit. I've only finished two books on my own time since like middle school.

Families are viewed more as dysfunctional nightmares than loving, supportive social units. And who the hell goes to church any more?

I gotta admit looking back at this thread I am kinda lazy, but to be honest most people are lazy in their own ways. Some of those office folk calling the younger generation lazy are probably slammin drinks at lunch and bullshitting around the office all day.

I haven't finished any lol. And I think I read only a few books that were assigned to me.

I have read about half of the Harry Potter series though.

I finished a shit ton of books when I was a kid, but then I got video games, which is like a book I can play.

Also some stories, (witcher 3) outclass a lot of books.

I am glad I read The Martian.

I have pretty much only put books recommended by the guys over at Tested on my radar (The Martian, Seven Eves, Ready Player One etc. etc.)

I just got back into reading books. it's taking me a bit of time to get the hang of it again. I can tell my attention span has declined but is steadily getting better.
that being said, for future generations, we need to encourage the youngstas to read and read and read some more. TV and movies are great and all but I believe that can be poison for a child's mind if that's all they learn from. programs like reading rainbow and Jack Hannahs wild adventures were great to watch growing up, but reading books caused me to think more and use my imaginaton.
and imagination is faded away through too much television and faddish media.

This is the final word for any discussion of the flaws of millenials:
They are products of their upbringings and the society that they are coming up in. It's not their fault that they're an entitled, weak-willed, overly-sensitive cohort, they just have crummy parents and peers with crummy parents. Also, they are raised by and placed into a world altered by a generation that milked everything for the short term with little or no attention to future planning.

This is the same logic that got that rich kid out of jail for killing 4 people while drunk driving in Texas. Take some fucking personal responsibility.
