I think its another sign of where the internet is going...Forums are already dying due to facebook and the like, where information is never retained, idiots asking questions continuously that could be solved with the first google search result. Now any information posted up using photobucket in the past will be lost, old threads from 10yrs ago will become useless. Those google results will become less and less useful. The internet was predominantly designed to sharing information and ideas, its more about sharing your dinner plate and selfies now.

    Sad really.

Sad truth. I've noticed most forums are slowly dropping.

Not too long ago we got a new member doing some crazy shit ("Trina", fish tank heater box, ect.). Now none of these kids know anything other than Facebook.

Maybe like everything else, the tide will shift back.

i don't know man. i think things just evolve. as technology comes along, the old stuff just dies off.....

walmart put thousands of small mom and pop stores out of business probably never to return. amazon is in the process of putting the shopping mall and even perhaps walmart one day out of business.....

8 track tapes put away records(although there is some nostalgic renaissance) but were made useless by the cassette tape. those lost out to the compact disk. cds are pretty much obsolete because of the iPod/pandora......

anyway, i'm pretty sure you get where i'm going with this.

I understand your point, but all of those offered things that the older side didn't.

Finding information on Facebook is a lost cause. When it comes to technical discussion, the Facebook groups cannot even come close.

So I guess it maybe a blessing in disguise, leave the forums to the "adults". Assuming the forums can continue with dwindling traffic....

Yes, but with all those examples, I think we would all agree that the new version is generally better than the old version.

Facebook groups are NOT better than a forum. I joined a Datsun page about a week ago. I cannot believe how stupid these people are. It's like they only know of Facebook. No google, no forums, nothing. Just FB. Incapable of researching something for themselves. The people on FB are also much more trendy, ie, annoying, tend to ruin things. There's got to be at least a 20 point IQ difference between the FB pages and the forums. You could argue that these people would just be on here instead, but I swear the forums were never this bad, even ten years ago when they were popular. Forums are also infinitely better for searching archived content. FB has no such feature.

I am eagerly awaiting the day that FB goes offline. I have a browser add on that allows me to filter the shit out of it, otherwise it would simply be unusable.

It's Facebooks fault. The simplicity of it, the "instant" gratification of likes, and the lack of depth and detail when it comes to car builds isn't seen as valuable to this younger generation.

My build thread gets attention when I do things that's look cool, but i still update it when there's boring things that get done because it's a build thread not a "look at my cool wheels and stance" thread.

Since I'm new to the Datsun roadsters and it seems like the info light disappear before I really get my grasp on it, I've started to keep a notebook of valuable info just in case it does away. I've owned E30s for nearly 10 years and I still now just a little when it comes to them, but I search and I have a Bentley manual. It's not the same in the roadster community. There's no Bentley manual, though somewhere here are some kind of service manual. Until I get one it's back to the old school method of storing info. Pen&paper

They have taken down Trina's pictures.

I thought (wrongly) my photobucket account was going to be spared since my pictures have stayed up but as of today they are all gone.

Broken links. I still have the pictures saved on a hard drive as well. I have been unhappy with photobucket for a long time, it's time to change.

Bad analogy. Replacing forums with facebook groups is more analogous to replacing the cassette tape with hitclips. Or a library with twitter.

Privileges? When you paid for the service it was with the guarantee of certain features described, namely remote linking. That's not a privilege they're granting you, it's a service you already paid for which means it is one they are obligated to provide to you until the end of the contract period. The wording of this statement just backs up the fact that these guys are scummy as all hell. They're treating it like they're doing you a solid by letting you use remote linking until the end of the term of service you already paid for, when it is in fact their obligation.

Between the ridiculous price for the service they're offering and the way they've handled this whole thing, from lack of notification to that quoted statement, I hope this goes very badly for photobucket and lingers as a pestering black mark on the resumes of the decision makers for years to come.
