1: I do not consider myself a liberal, and I definitely wouldn't fall into that category in any country outside of the US. Yes I am implying that the views of even what you would consider left wing in the US strikes a lot of people as excessively conservative for a country existing in this decade. I'm not trying to cause a fight, but this is actually a conversation that I've had to sit through from time to time - and I'm not on the "wah America is scary, I'll never go there" side of the argument either (unless it were on black friday)

2: If countries banned Muslim refugees from immigrating, it would cause a massive loss of life. If firearms were banned/restricted, it would at the very least do nothing. Best case, it would save lives. These two things are not related.

I do actually have an issue with Canada's immigration policy with the "No single males" shit we're pulling. No, it's not because my bleeding heart says its unfair. It's because these are the most vulnerable people. They are exactly the people ISIS would want to recruit. We are potentially feeding ISIS new recruits on a large scale, and helping ISIS with the "sale" by giving these potential recruits a reason to hate us for denying them refuge. Let alone any feelings they may have for us "stealing their women" or however else this shit could get twisted around.

This is just a continuation of how we keep fucking ourselves by trying to avoid dealing with a potential problem.

I think a lot of people in this thread should look at the different sects of Islam.

The biggest issue with Islam is the growth of Religious fundamentalism, and especially Saudi Arabias support of Wahhabism Islam. I think people on the other side of this argument act like most Muslims dont support Fundamentalist sects of Islam, when in fact they do.

From what I understand, The way Islam is transforming now would be as if Christians and Jews followed old testament laws again. The fix is Islam undergoing a similar transformation, becoming slightly more secular in a way you could say.

The best way to fix this situation is really to hope a coalition of middle eastern countries can change the view of Islam from a fundamentalist view to a more modern view. Including cutting off all support for Saudi Arabia and turkey. Peshmerga is a good example of a group going the right way.



On the refugees note, Its pretty hilarious how people keep pulling the wolf in sheeps clothing argument, that we are asking for tons of IS members by accepting refugees. There have already been a few thousand refugees accepted.
