No, its not the same thing, even a little. Corporations are not tyrannies. I disagree with shareholder motivations on reporting news, but that is not me admitting that I agree that corporations are tyrranies. That is insane thinking and only used to justify the tearing down of the entire system. Label something a tyrant, and you get to kill it. The label is what counts with "thinkers" like you and Noam.

He's not contending all corporations are tyrannies, of course. Just positing the idea that some corporations do in fact act that way in our wild-west system. I'd guess you'd have to read a ton more of what he says on that subject, instead of just being absolutist about this one quote you looked up.

First off, I never said its the best its ever been. I said it is the best nation to have ever existed, period. We have our problems to be sure, but being black in America, for instance, is not a death sentence. That's a lie. You do not seem capable of nuanced thought.

Once again, I am not talking about term limits, I am talking about service limits of individuals in government. Far more wide and reaching than simple term limits. And are you giving Bernie a blowie for that kudo you think he deserves? Who is talking about what I am talking about? No one.

Ok, gotcha. Service limits. I misunderstood. I could get on board with that. But let's say, for example, someone seems to have done quite a decent job as a Mayor, or Governor. Proven themself. But now they basically ran out their "service limit." Should they be barred from running for President or Senator, etc? That's at least debatable. I don't think it's a bad idea, though. It might help curb cronyism or corruption in the current system, but the current system has to change as it is.

And you are 100% right, I don't hear too many people talking about "service limits" -- least of all Politicians for god sakes! I do applaud anyone who's talking about real campaign finance reform, because I believe that's they key to everything. Take the money out of politics. Can we not agree on that?

Yeah, we seem to use current failures as another excuse to go after whoever your political rival may be, no matter who or what precipitated the crisis. The reverse goes for positive events.

I would have at least expected one national policy from Biden, and a faster push of legislation related to whatever the fix may have been, simply based on being able to interface with known colleagues.

I think they would have done something, anything, to work through this. What has Trump done? Complain on twitter how much people don't like him? (I wonder why). Try to suppress the data? Fire or threaten people who don't say what he wants them to say? Where is the coordinated government response? Trump isn't capable of leading a horse to water, much less leading us out of this mess.

I don't blame the president for the pandemic. I do however, hold him responsible for his total recklessness and self centered behavior. First he tried to pretend it was just going to go away, and now he's trying to pretend it doesn't exist. It's not like we can look almost anywhere in the world and see many civilized nations who have responded much faster and much better than we have. We're practically a 3rd world country in that regard. It's almost as if they have actual competent leaders who know how to do more than tweet, watch Fox News, and eat cheeseburgers..

I do think whether it's Bush or Biden or Obama or even Hillary Clinton, they were going to take the pandemic super seriously. They don't view this (as much) as a marketing exercise; all of them are also more allegiant to science, even Bush.

It's telling that some of the biggest Hedge-fund managers have been coming out lately and congratulating Trump for downplaying the seriousness of the pandemic, and they talk about very plainly: it gave them just a little more time to reallocate and play this. Meanwhile we have 130k+ dead in the country. The President and his cabal has serious blood on their hands. The blown response deserves removal from office.
