Moonroof is a type of sunroof. A sunroof is a panel that slides open and lets light in etc. A moon roof does the same thing, except it glass and transparent..

Horrible analogy. You can't open an entire room to let sun/moon light in. Those have two completely different purposes.

you have the typical sunroof, and yes the moonroof is a subset of a sunroof, not a super-set. all reputable sources will tell you that Ford in the 70s made up the moonroof and coined it. it's a glass sunroof that opens and sides.

In the e30 world the sun roof refers to metal panel and moon roof refers to glass panel.

In the installation manual it's called the "Saratoga Sunroof" by BMW. There are 2 sizes, one standard and one that's 2mm smaller. This is described on page 2 of the PDF linked below.

If you can get either version it's absolutely worth it. It is hands down my favorite mod. The tint is even dark enough where you don't bake in the sun.
